Daniel Jay Gokey is an American vocalist who was formerly employed as a church music director. He was born on April 24, 1980. On the eighth season of American Idol, he finished the competition in third place overall. Following his success on the show, Gokey began a career in country music by signing with 19 Recordings and RCA Nashville, and he later released the single “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.” In March 2010, he released his first studio album, titled My Best Days.
After he parted ways with RCA Nashville in November 2011, he moved his musical style in the direction of adult pop and contemporary Christian, and a few months later, in May 2013, he signed a record and publishing agreement with BMG. On October 1, 2013, his autobiography, titled Hope in Front of Me: Find Purpose in Your Darkest Moments, was released to the public.
