Bio

American professional dancer, choreographer, live-stage performer, model, businesswoman, and motivational speaker Cheryl Burke. She had a background in ballet but later developed a passion for ballroom dancing, earning her accolades all around the world. Burke’s professional career started when an “ABC” agent discovered her and helped her get a spot on the dance reality competition “Dancing with the Stars.” She became the first female professional to win two seasons in a row when she won the show’s second and third seasons. She then took part in 19 more seasons, the final one being the 28th. Burke also took part in the television shows “I Can Do That” and “Dance Moms.” She has her own clothing line, has produced a number of exercise DVDs, and has been in numerous TV ads. Burke’s autobiography, which includes a detailed account of being molested in the past, is now available for purchase.

She aids those who have been abused as children and is affiliated with various philanthropic organizations. Stephen Louis Burke and Sherri Bautista welcomed Cheryl Stephanie Burke into the world on May 3, 1984, in San Mateo County, California, in the United States. She grew raised with Nicole, her sister. Mandy is her stepsister as well. Burke started her career in 2006 when she appeared on television for the first time in the episode “Loosely Ballroom” of the Disney Channel sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” as “Shannon,” a nurse. She then made an appearance as a dancer in “Smallville.” She appeared in a Jazzercise dancing exercise program commercial and hosted an infomercial for her “Disco Abs” workout system in 2009. Burke was also chosen to represent “Jazzercise” as its spokeswoman. The Cheryl Burke Collection, her recognizable brand of athletic clothing, was introduced that year.

Burke worked on a live performance for the 2010 animated film “Toy Story 3” alongside renowned ballroom dancer Tony Dovolani and the dance and music group “Gipsy Kings.” Together with ballroom champion Maksim Chmerkovskiy, she unveiled a series of workout videos with a Latin dance theme. She had an appearance in the 2010 Ne-Yo song “Camera Phone” music video. Burke’s autobiography, “Dancing Lessons: How I Found Passion and Potential on the Dance Floor and in Life,” was published in February 2011. The mayor of San Francisco gave her the city’s key the next year.

For season 10 of “DWTS,” Burke teamed up with the former American football star Chad Ochocinco. She was paired with former Canadian-Bahamian basketball player Rick Fox, wrestler Chris Jericho, reality personality Rob Kardashian, actor William Levy, former “DWTS” winner Emmitt Smith, and comedian D.L. Hughley throughout the course of the following six seasons, in that order.

Burke’s 17th season co-star and multiple sclerosis sufferer Jack Osbourne served as the inspiration for a number of her performances. They finished that season second runners-up. Burke collaborated with actors and game show hosts Drew Carey and Antonio Sabàto Jr. for the next two seasons. After season 19, her contract with “DWTS” expired, and she left the program to work on other endeavors. Burke started her clothing brand, “Cee Bee,” in 2015 with the help of the online retailer “QVC.” In the inaugural season of the “NBC” show “I Can Do That”, she finished as the first runner-up.

She participated in the live stage performance “Love on the Floor” in Japan in 2016 and 2017, performing alongside Olympic champion ice skaters. Burke was one of the show’s creators and worked with the live event business “IMG” to co-produce it. In the 23rd season of “DWTS” (September 2016), Burke made a comeback as Ryan Lochte’s partner. She skipped the following season and took part in the 25th, which began in September 2017, alongside Terrell Owens, a former wide receiver in the NFL. She received two “Primetime Emmy” nominations in 2006—one for “Outstanding Choreography” and the other for “Variety/Music Program/Special.” She was now the youngest nominee for any of these two “Emmy” awards.

Burke won the ‘DWTS’ competition twice in a row, in seasons and 3. In the former, she collaborated with ’98 Degrees member Drew Lachey; in the latter, she did so with Emmitt Smith, a former NFL player. For the “Dancing with the Stars” tour, which ran from December 19, 2006, to February 11, 2007, she and Lachey teamed up once more. Burke and actor Ian Ziering became partners in the fourth season. In the semifinals, the two were defeated.

Burke’s ‘DWTS’ partner for season 5 was Las Vegas performer Wayne Newton. They collaborated once more for the 24-city summer tour, which took place from June 20, 2007, to July 24, 2007. On October 9, 2007, they were dismissed. Burke was given the “Role Model Award” during the 7th “Annual Filipino/American Library Gala” on October 20.

Burke took part in the ‘DWTS’ winter tour from December 18, 2007, to February 10, 2008, alongside Lachey and Newton. Burke opened her first dancing studio in San Francisco in April. She has also made available a range of fitness DVDs called “DWTS” that feature her dancing routines. Burke finished as the competition’s second runner-up with her ‘DWTS’ season 6 partner, actor Cristián de la Fuente. She received the “Viewer’s Choice” award at the “Asian Excellence Awards” that year for “Favorite TV Personality.”

Burke and professional athlete Maurice Greene were among the top couples in the seventh season of “DWTS,” which debuted in September 2008. For the succeeding season, she was paired with actor Gilles Marini, and the two finished in second place. Due to DeLay’s foot fractures, Burke and her ninth season co-star, former “U.S. House of Representatives” majority leader Tom DeLay, were forced to leave the show.

She attended a conventional primary school before earning her high school diploma from Menlo-Atherton in 2002. Burke started studying ballet when she was 4 years old. Burke’s mother was shocked to learn that she had lost interest in ballet after a few years. So, when she was 10 years old, she took her to a ballroom performance. Burke watched the dancing form and was so impressed that he determined to learn it.

Burke began her ballroom dance instruction at the age of 11. Her tutor advised her to concentrate on traditional and Latin approaches. Burke began competing in international ballroom dance events within two years. Burke was discovered by an ‘ABC talent agency while competing with her then-boyfriend Jose DeCamps in a 2005 competition. She then took part in the network’s dancing reality competition series “Dancing with the Stars” as a result. She won titles including “World Cup Professional Rising Star Latin Champion,” “San Francisco Latin Champion,” and “Ohio Star Ball Rising Star Latin Champion” in the year 2005.
