The Apple, Night of the Comet, The Last Starfighter, and Weekend at Bernie’s are just a few of the movies in which she has appeared. She also played the role of Kayla Brady in the original series of Days of Our Lives. Mary (Stewart) and John Ralph Nursall welcomed their daughter Stewart into the world on April 22nd, 1959 in Edmonton, Alberta. Stewart is their daughter.

Both of her parents worked at the University of Alberta, with her mother serving as a teaching assistant in the Department of Physiology and her father as a professor of biology. The Strathcona Composite High School educated Stewart during his high school years. She started off by taking jazz dance classes, and then after high school, she travelled to London to pursue dance as well as general performing arts. It was in London that she auditioned successfully for her first film, which was The Apple.

In the year 1980, Stewart was cast in a part in the musical science fiction cult film known as The Apple. In the course of filming The Apple, the director Menahem Golan had a problem with her birth name, Mary Nursall, and requested that she alter it. She complied with his request and changed it to her mother’s maiden name. Soon after relocating to Los Angeles, she landed a part on the long-running daytime serial opera Days of Our Lives, where she portrayed the first version of Kayla Brady from January 1982 to December 1983.

In addition, she competed against Jamie Lee Curtis in the casting process for films such as Death of a Centerfold: The Dorothy Stratten Story. She had starring roles in two science fiction films that year, The Last Starfighter as Maggie Gordon and Night of the Comet as Regina Belmont. Both of these films were released in 1984. After that, she became known for her major part in the teen comedy titled “Mischief.”

During the middle of the 1980s, Stewart had roles in two different miniseries: the first was titled Hollywood Wives (1985), and the second was titled Sins (1986). In both of these, Stewart played a younger version of the character that Joan Collins had previously portrayed. She appeared in episodes of television shows such as Knight Rider, Hotel, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and The Outer Limits as a guest star. She has starring roles in a number of movies that were produced specifically for television, including “Murder by the Book” (1987), “Passion and Paradise” (1989), “Perfect Harmony” (1991), and “Ordeal in the Arctic” (1993). In the comedy picture Weekend at Bernie’s, which was released in 1989, she played the role of Gwen Saunders.

While she was busy raising her family, she began to make less public appearances in the middle of the 1990s. She resumed her acting career on television and in films after her children had reached their teenage years, and she also displayed an interest in directing around this time. She made an appearance in the movie A Christmas Snow in the year 2010. She was the director of the short film A Walk to Remember, which was released in 2016.

She portrayed starring roles in the Hallmark holiday films Rock N’ Roll Christmas in 2019 and A Christmas Comeback in 2020. She is the sister of Alan Nursall, a scientist and media personality who reports on scientific news for the television show Daily Planet in Canada as well as for the Discovery Channel in the United States. Another brother, John Nursall, is a documentary director and producer for television and film in addition to being a freelance writer.

She wed actor John Findlater in 1983, and the couple separated the following year in 1985. In 1992, she tied the knot with Richard Allerton. As of the year 2013, she was a resident of Brooklyn, New York, and she had two children, a daughter and a son.
