Black Thought, born Tarik Luqmaan Trotter on October 3, 1971, is an American rapper, actor, and the lead MC of the Philadelphia-based hip hop group the Roots, which he co-founded with drummer Questlove. Black Thought was born on October 3, 1971, in the United States. Black Thought first became interested in the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths while he was a senior in high school. After changing their name to the Roots and releasing their debut album Organix in 1993, the Square Roots became known simply as the Roots. The Roots released their second studio album, titled Do You Want More?!!!??!, in 1995 after signing with DGC.
The album was recorded without using any samples, and as a result, it was more successful with followers of alternative music than with hip hop aficionados. The Roots gave performances at the Lollapalooza alternative music festival as well as the Montreux Jazz Festival around the time that their record was released. The song “Good Morning” was released by Black Thought on August 28, 2020, and it featured contributions from Swizz Beatz, Killer Mike, and Pusha T.
