Andrew Koji was born on May 12th, 1950, and he was born in Dublin. His family consisted of a total of six children, and he was the eldest of the bunch. Byrne was born to a mother who worked as a nurse and a father who worked as a barrel maker for the Irish brewer Guinness. Byrne was named after his father. After having a conversation with a priest, Gabriel felt motivated to follow a vocation in the ministry and made the decision to attend a theological school in London. But after a few years, he decided to stop going to school and moved back to Ireland. He eventually came clean and acknowledged that other seminary students had engaged in sexual misconduct with him.

Byrne was awarded a grant from UCD that covered the whole cost of his tuition.  In the years leading up to his decision to pursue a career in acting, Gabriel explored a variety of professions, including that of a plumber, archaeologist, and chef, among others.

Gabriel made his debut on the silver screen in the 1981 picture “Excalibur.” The film was directed by Richard Harris. He was catapulted to the top of the Hollywood A-list in a very short amount of time. In the year 2000, Byrne got back into the acting game and resumed his profession. His performance in “A Moon for the Misbegotten” at the Walter Kerr Theatre was praised by both the critics and the audience members who saw it. Another one of Gabriel’s outstanding performances was in the movie “Jindabyne,” which was released in Australia in 2006. In the years that followed, he continued to have a large number of pictures released.

In the 2008 production of “Camelot,” which was part of the “New York Philharmonic’s annual musical spectacular,” he portrayed the role of “King Arthur.” This was his second time performing on “Broadway.” His breakthrough role on television was in the HBO miniseries In Treatment, which ran from 2008 to 2010. Byrne has also worked in the film industry; the screenplay for his film, The Last of the High Kings, was co-written by him in 1996. The movie “In the Name of the Father” was his most significant effort as a producer, and it was nominated for a total of eight awards, including seven Academy Awards and four Golden Globes.

As a result of the charitable work that he had done, he was given the title of “UNICEF Ireland” ambassador in the year 2004. In 2008, Byrne released his documentary titled “Stories from Home,” in which he highlighted some personal facets of his life. In 1995, he was awarded the “NBR Award for Best Performance by Ensemble” for his work in “The Usual Suspects,” which he shared with the rest of the ensemble. He was presented with the Theatre World Prize in the year 2000 for his work on the play “A Moon for the Misbegotten.” He has been considered for a Tony Award thanks to the work he did on the production of “A Moon for the Misbegotten.”

In recognition of his contributions to the Irish film industry, the “National University of Ireland” in Galway bestowed upon him an honorary degree in the year 2007. In the same year, the “University Philosophical Society” of Trinity College in Dublin honored him by conferring the title of “Honorary Patronage” upon the organization. In 2008, he was put forward for consideration for an Emmy Award for his work on the series “In Treatment.” In the same year, he was awarded the Golden Globe for “Best Performance in a Drama Series” for his work on the series “In Treatment.” This was his first Golden Globe.

In 2009, he was recognized with a second nomination for an “Emmy” for his work on the film “In Treatment.” Because of his performance in “Long Day’s Journey into Night” in 2016, he was considered for a Tony Award nomination. Byrne had a previous relationship with television producer Aine O’Connor that lasted for a decade and a half. 1986 marked the beginning of their separation as a couple. After some time had passed, he eventually married the actress Ellen Barkin. With the birth of their two children together in 1999, they decided to end their relationship. On August 4th, 2014, he wed Hannah Beth King. The wedding took place in 2014. They announced the arrival of a daughter in February of 2017.
