Twitter was the medium via which Liaw announced on September 29, 2009, that he was contemplating submitting an audition for the second season of MasterChef Australia. The announcement that he was one of the top 24 finalists came in April of 2010. Even though he had won a competition in which he had to make the meals of famous chefs, Liaw was skeptical that he had the necessary skills to win the championship.

As a result of his victory against Callum Hann in the championship match of the second season of MasterChef Australia, which took place on July 25, 2010, he was crowned the winner of the competition. His triumph continues to be the non-sporting television event that has received the most viewers in the history of Australia.
Following her victory on the program, Liaw carefully evaluated a variety of alternatives, one of which being the possibility of building an izakaya restaurant with Matthew Crabbe, an Australian chef residing in Tokyo and a close friend of hers. As a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, he participated in both the fourth and sixth seasons of the competition. Liaw was awarded the chance to create his cookbook when he became victorious in the second season of MasterChef Australia for Australia.

Liaw divides the book into two primary areas: the Old Kitchen and the fresh Kitchen. In each of these sections, he investigates recipes that he has grown up with as well as fresh ideas. Reviewers in Australia have expressed their satisfaction with the book.
Since then, Liaw has released several publications, some of which are Asian After Work (2013), Adam’s Big Pot (2014), Asian Cookery School (2015), and The Zen Kitchen (2016). In addition to that, he contributes articles to other publications, such as Good Food, Sunday Life magazine, and The Guardian. When he was younger, he contributed to the Scene Asia section of The Wall Street Journal.
