Michigan landed a big tight-end commit on Sunday when Andrew Rappleyea, a class of 2023 recruit, announced his decision on Twitter. Michigan’s lefty ace, redshirt sophomore Steven Hajjar, threw an eight-inning gem on Friday, allowing only four hits and one run. The Maize and Blue’s bats, however, remained dormant, with Nebraska left-hander Cade Povich pitching seven scoreless innings. Following the conclusion of the conference’s regular season, eight Michigan players received Big Ten honors. The following is a list of every Wolverine who has received such honor.

The First Team • Ted Burton, sophomore second baseman — As of Sunday, the final day of Big Ten Conference play, Burton, ranks second in the league in slugging percentage (.673) and third in batting average (.271). (.355). He leads the team with a.445 on-base percentage and has hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games, batting.387 (29-for-75) with 10 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 25 RBI, and 19 runs scored. • Steven Hajjar, a redshirt sophomore pitcher, went 4-1 with a 2.85 ERA (fifth-best in the conference) and 101 strikeouts in 72.5 innings this season. Second Group • Griffin Mazur, a fifth-year senior catcher, threw out more than 38% of would-be base stealers and set career highs in extra-base hits (13), home runs (six), and RBI (33). •

Benjamin Sems, a fifth-year senior shortstop, had a.321 batting average, a.395 on-base percentage, and a team-high 52 hits while driving in 30 runs this season. • Tito Flores, a sophomore outfielder, ranks ninth in the league with a.327 batting average. • Cameron Weston, a sophomore pitcher, led the conference with seven wins (7-3), a 2.40 ERA, and a.214 batting average against. Third Group • Jimmy Obertop, a sophomore first baseman, batted.272 and led Michigan with 10 home runs this season. • Willie Weiss, a junior pitcher, limited opposing hitters to a.172 average and three extra-base hits during the regular season. —- • Discuss this article within The Fort.

Listen to and subscribe to our podcoreless innings — allowing four hits — before the Husker bullpen sealed the 1-0 victory. In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, Michigan pitched a shutout. Cameron Weston, a sophomore right-hander, pitched seven innings and allowed four hits before junior closer Willie Weiss slammed the door in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the 2-0 victory. There was a bit more scoring in Sunday’s grudge match, with Nebraska winning 5-3.

Through eight innings, the Huskers led 5-0 before the Wolverines scored three runs in the ninth but couldn’t really enough to pull themselves out of the hole. D1Baseball projects the Maize and Blue as a No. 3 seed, facing No. 2 seed Virginia in the Eugene Region, which is hosted by No. 1 seed Oregon. Baseball America, on the other hand, is less optimistic about Michigan’s chances of making the field of 64. The Wolverines are one of the first four teams to be named, according to the publication. In his commitment letter, Rappleyea stated, “The recruiting process has been life-changing.”

I’ve met a lot of great coaches and formed a lot of great relationships, but one school stands out above the rest.” “Having said that, there is no reason to prolong the process.” I’ve found my home, and I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve made a commitment to… Michigan State University.” Rappleyea is a four-star prospect from Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts, according to the 247Sports Composite. He was on campus for Michigan’s victory over Ohio State in November and received an offer from the Wolverines in December after speaking with Jay Harbaugh. “I spoke with coach Jay Harbaugh on the phone, and that’s when he extended me the offer,” Rappleyea told The Michigan Insider after receiving the offer. “I was overjoyed. It’s a fantastic opportunity. It means a lot to me. It’ll be one of my top picks.”

The  6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end narrowed his top schools down to Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Boston College, and North Carolina that month. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Rappleyea is the No. 332 overall prospect in the 2023 class, the No. 20 tight end in the country, and the No. 5 player in the state of Massachusetts in his class. With Rappleyea’s decision, Michigan now has five firm commitments for the class of 2023.

Among those who have verbally committed to the program are Raylen Wilson, Joel Starlings, Semaj Morgan, and Adam Samaha. The Wolverines signed tight ends Marlin Klein and Colston Loveland in the class of 2022. Klein, a German native, is “everything you’re looking for in  tight end,” according to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, while Loveland “doesn’t look like a high school senior” due to his athletic ability.
