Sue Ane Langdon Bio

Actress Sue Ane Langdon hails from the United States. A Guide for the Married Man and The Cheyenne Social Club, both directed by Gene Kelly, as well as The Rounders, in which she starred alongside Henry Fonda and Glenn Ford, and two Elvis Presley pictures, Roustabout and Frankie and Johnny, are among the films in which she has acted. She has also been in dozens of television shows.

When she first started her career in the performing arts, she began by singing at Radio City Music Hall and appearing in theater musicals. While she was in the middle of the 1960s, she had an appearance in the Broadway musical The Apple Tree, which was starring Alan Alda. Her performance as a co-star in the television series Arnie earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Movie or Television Series.

She made her debut in the musical Hello Dolly at The Little Theatre on the Square in the year 1976. As part of the Kenley Players in Columbus, Ohio, she made an appearance in Chicago in the year 1978. She appeared in comedy most of the time, save for a few tragic films here and there. As soon as Langdon had his high school diploma, he enrolled at the North Texas Teachers College, which is located in Denton, Texas. She also attended Idaho State University for a short period as a full-time student.

Langdon debuted in the film industry with the 1961 picture The Great Impostor, which starred Tony Curtis. In the years that followed, Langdon went on to play prominent parts in films such as The Rounders (1965), Hold On! (1966), A Guide for the Married Man (1967), A Man Called Dagger (1967), The Cheyenne Social Club (1970), and A Fine Madness (1966). It was at this time that she posed naked for Playboy magazine.

In 1966, United Artists Pictures produced the film Frankie and Johnny, in which Langdon appeared among other notable actors such as Elvis Presley, Donna Douglas, and Harry Morgan. The Evictors (1979), Without Warning (1980), Zapped! (1982), UHF (1989), and Zapped Again! (1990) were some of the films that she appeared in later in her career. Her first regular job on network series television was as the third actress to portray Alice Kramden in Jackie Gleason’s The Honeymooners skits and episodes. This was Langdon’s first network series television role.

Pert Kelton and Audrey Meadows came before her, and then Sheila MacRae and Meadows once again came after her. In 1962, she appeared on the cover of Life magazine with Gleason, heralding his comeback to weekly variety programming. She made a modest impression on the American Scene Magazine phase of Gleason’s career, at best, due to her untimely departure from the position after just a limited four-week run through the role.

There were “incompatible personality differences” between “The Great One” and her, according to the press at the specific time. MacRae took up the part of the color, hour-long musical versions four years after the first production. During the NBC segment of Bachelor Father (1959–1961), Langdon appeared on the small screen more regularly in guest appearances such as Kitty Marsh. This was the case for most of her films.

She made two appearances on Rod Cameron’s syndicated crime drama Coronado 9 at the beginning of the next year. Her first of three appearances on Perry Mason was in 1961, and it was in the episode “The Case of the Crying Comedian” in which she played the role of Rowena Leach. For an episode of The Andy Griffith Show that aired on CBS in 1962, she played the role of nurse Mary Simpson. Julie Adams, another actor, also portrayed the role of Nurse Mary on the Griffith program.

The episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show titled “One Angry Man” had Langdon in the role of a haphazard defendant who was on trial. This was another great situation comedy. With the episode “The Case of the Scandalous Sculptor” from 1964, Langdon made her second appearance as a guest on Perry Mason. She played the role of Bonnie, a victim of a murder. She made her third appearance on Perry Mason in the episode “The Case of the Avenging Angel” from 1966, in which she played the role of Dorothy (Dotty) Merrill.

Among the other television shows in which she has appeared as a guest star are Gunsmoke, Tales of Wells Fargo, 77 Sunset Strip, Bourbon Street Beat, Room for One More, Shotgun Slade, Mannix, Thriller, Bonanza, Ironside, McHale’s Navy, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Banacek, The Wild Wild West, Hart to Hart, Three’s Company, The Love Boat, and Happy Days. Additionally, she has appeared as herself on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.

In the 1970s, she appeared in two different television programs as a co-star. CBS broadcast the first season of the comedy Arnie, which starred Herschel Bernardi, in 1970. The show ran for a total of two seasons. The portrayal that Langdon gave as Lillian Nuvo, the wife of a loading-dock foreman who rose to the position of company executive, earned her a Golden Globe award. Grandpa Goes to Washington was an hour-long comedy that aired on NBC and starred veteran actor Jack Albertson. Langdon played the role of Rosie Kelley, the daughter-in-law of a maverick United States Senator who was above the age of 65.

It was her third try at weekly episodic television, and it ran for a total of four months. It debuted in 1978, opposite Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley, which were the most popular block series at the time. It was in the ABC comedy When the Whistle Blows that she made her last attempt at starring in her series. As a mid-season replacement in 1980, Langdon took the role of Darlene Ridgeway, the proprietor of a tavern that was frequented by construction workers in the surrounding area. This was yet another unheard-of comedy that ran for a whole ten weeks.
