The Tigers spent most of the 2019–20 season away from home, playing only two home games to completion. Despite a slow start to the spring, the Tigers finished strong with four victories in their final five games before being stopped by COVID-19. In the final game of the spring season, the squad decisively defeated No. 46 LSU.

The Tigers won 9 of their 12 home games in the 2018–19 season, despite missing Ryan Peniston and Andrew Watson. The doubles team of Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson was named to the AAC all-conference team, giving Goebel a total of 17 AAC all-conference honorees during his time as head coach.

Goebel had his best NCAA Tournament performance in the spring of 2018. Seniors Ryan Peniston and Andrew Watson earned spots on the AAC’s all-league team for singles and doubles after compiling an 18-6 record this spring, including a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. The Peniston-Watson doubles team was only the second in Tiger history to qualify for the competition, while Peniston became the sixth Tiger to advance to the singles round. The Memphis doubles pair and Peniston both had their best tournament ever, reaching the semifinals.

In 2016–17, Goebel led another team to the NCAA Tournament, adding to his already impressive list of accomplishments. Ryan Peniston had another all-conference season for the Tigers, and the team finished with a 15-9 record despite playing 11 teams in the top 25. Goebel’s fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament came at Memphis after he won ten of his next eleven matches in the middle of the spring.

After a strong spring in which they defeated illustrious opponents including Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Harvard, Memphis earned a bid to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. In total, five victories ranked in the top fifty qualified the team for the Tournament and propelled them to national notoriety. The Tigers, led by Andrew Watson and Ryan Peniston, made it to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in the last five years.

The Tigers’ winning ways continued last season, as they finished with a 15-8 record. Memphis was unbeatable in their own building, posting a record of 10-1. Two Tigers, Connor Glennon, and Andrew Watson, were named to the AAC’s First Team, while the Tigers also won trophies in the singles and doubles categories.

The Tigers set a number of program standards in 2013–14. Beginning the spring dual season as the No. 3 doubles pair in the NCAA, David O’Hare and Joe Salisbury set a new Tigers’ record. Only three Memphis doubles teams have ever made it to the main draw of the ITA All-American, and this year’s trio made it all the way to the quarterfinals. Less than two weeks later, in the semifinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Knoxville, the tandem became the first Tigers in program history to defeat the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the USA, defeating the Tennessee duo of Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese, 8-4. Another first for the program, they went on to win the ITA Regional Doubles Championship and make it all the way to the quarterfinals of the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. The pair competed in the NCAA Doubles draw as a capstone to their stellar collegiate careers. Goebel’s success with his team led to his being honored as the ITA Ohio Valley Region’s top coach.

In addition, Memphis had significant team momentum heading into the 2014 spring dual season. The Tigers finished the 2013 season ranked No. 20, the highest ever for the program, after earning its first NCAA tournament trip in 2012 and winning two matches there to get to the Round of 16. In the 2014 NCAA tournament, Memphis would face off against a familiar rival in Drake University, and after a nail-biting 4-3 victory, Memphis would advance to the NCAA Second Round for the second year in a row.

Tigers sophomore Connor Glennon won Conference USA’s Player of the Year, and Tigers head coach Greg Goebel was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the second time. Glennon and fellow junior Cedric De Zutter made second team all-conference in doubles, while juniors David O’Hare and Joe Salisbury were nominated to the first team. Glennon was nominated to the first team for singles, with Salisbury and junior Johnny Grimal earning spots on the second team. In the classroom, Salisbury was recognized by being selected to the all-academic team for the conference.
