Marc Andrew Gunn is a podcaster and musician who hails from the United States. He was born on March 17, 1972. The fact that Gunn was a member of the Brobdingnagian Bards who was in charge of playing the autoharp contributed to his rise to fame. Both he and his colleague Andrew McKee were successful in cultivating a devoted following by performing live shows on the grounds of the University of Texas in Austin on a consistent weekly basis.
As a direct consequence of this, the duo was asked to perform at Renaissance fairs, science fiction conventions, and Celtic music festivals, in addition to parties and weddings. The band was the highlight of the evening at the Oscar celebration for “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” which was held in New York City. After the band broke up in 2008, Gunn went on to establish himself as a prolific recording musician within the genre of Celtic music, releasing eleven new albums between the years 2008 and 2011.
Gunn was an early user of the medium of podcasting and was considered to be one of the few professionals working in the field of podcasting. It wasn’t until July of that year that he released the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, which is currently his most popular podcast. Although he published his first podcast in May of 2005, it wasn’t until July of that year that he debuted his first podcast. This program was first conceived as a spin-off of his Celtic Music Magazine email newsletter in the beginning stages of its development.
It was so successful that it immediately overshadowed the success of the newsletter. The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is a show that is one hour long and focuses most of its attention on independent Celtic performers and bands. The songs and tunes range from what is known as traditional Irish music to more contemporary styles of Celtic rock originating from all over the world. It was honored with the “Best Podsafe Music” award in each of the three years that the Podcast Awards were conducted, namely 2009, 2010, and 2017. Marc Gunn began his career in the field of Celtic music as a member of the Brobdingnagian Bards, a pair who performed traditional music. The early albums recorded by the Bards feature his production work as the album producer. 2004 saw the release of Gunn’s first solo album, The Soul of a Harper. The album was issued by Gunn.
After that, he started working on an album called Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers, which would later go on to become one of his most successful albums. On September 15, 2008, the band known as Brobdingnagian Bards broke up in a way that was amicable for all those involved. Gunn began performing solo. He released a handful of albums each year, with 2008 seeing the release of four full-length studio albums, 2009 saw the release of three, and 2010 saw the release of two. Gunn continued to release between one and two albums each year on average. He began shifting away from his regular base in Celtic music and began making more albums with a geeky tone. This was inspired by shows like Firefly and Lord of the Rings as well as other science fiction-themed pop culture media shows. He also began to move away from his typical base in Celtic music.
At other conventions that he attends throughout the year, such as Gen Con and Dragon Con, he gives performances both on his own and with ensembles on a yearly basis. The journal that is now known as Celtic Music Magazine was first introduced into the world in the year 2000 by Marc Gunn, a fan of Celtic music. In the beginning, it was a weekly journal that investigated a wide variety of Celtic music, spanning from Irish traditional music to Celtic rock. The topics covered in the journal were as diverse as the music itself.
On July 28, 2005, he uploaded the very first edition of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast for the public to listen to. It was the second podcast to be made accessible that was specifically dedicated to the music of Celtic countries. Gunn conceived of the presentation with the purpose of supporting independent Celtic musicians in growing their followings among Celtic music fans. The number of people watching the show kept growing. It is believed that in the early days of the podcast, each episode attracted more than 20,000 downloads, which made it one of the most popular music podcasts available on iTunes at the time. The statistics that were provided by Libsyn indicate that the show now gets more than 10,000 downloads for each episode, and it is listed in the top 90% of all podcasts.
In 2009, the Podcast Awards were held for the first time, and this podcast ended up winning the award for “Best Podsafe Music.” This triumph was achieved once more in the year 2010, and then once more in the year 2017. Gunn was a pioneer in the field of podcasting and was one of the first people to do so professionally. In 2006, he laid the groundwork for what would later become Song Henge in order to offer monetary assistance to the podcast’s creators.
