Lance Reddick Bio

Lance Reddick had a fortunate upbringing throughout his life. He was born on December 31, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was descended from a long line of legal professionals. He made the decision to pursue a career in classical music composition at an early age, and as a result, he started taking piano lessons. During his senior year of high school, he attended both the Walden School and the Peabody Preparatory Institute, where he majored in music theory and composition. In spite of his early convictions that people who wanted to be actors were foolish, Reddick was always drawn inexplicably toward the industry. He thought that those who wanted to be performers were stupid.

After receiving his diploma from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in the 1980s, he relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, and started attending classes at the Yale School of Drama the following decade in 1991. Reddick received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University. In 1996, Lance Reddick made his debut on television in an episode of the second season of “New York Undercover.” In 1997, a telefilm titled “What the Deaf Man Heard” was broadcast on television. Reddick played the titular role in the 1998 film adaption of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, which was directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starred Reddick. In the action movie “The Siege,” which was released in 1998, he played a role whose plot involved a terrorist suspect being covertly kidnapped by the United States government as a series of terrorist attacks were taking place in that nation. In addition to Reddick, the film included other notable actors and actresses such as Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, and Annette Bening. He played the recurring role of Detective Willis Simms in the crime drama ‘Falcone,’ which aired on CBS in the year 2000. In the same year, he also appeared in the romantic adventure film “I Dreamed of Africa,” which was released that year.

In the two seasons of the HBO drama series ‘Oz’ that he participated in between the years 2000 and 2001, he portrayed the role of Johnny Basil, a.k.a. Desmond “Zil” Mobay, a drug enforcement officer posing as a Jamaican addict. In this role, he was a drug enforcement officer pretending as an addict. On the NBC show ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,’ he had a recurring role as Dr. Taylor and was featured in a total of six episodes. Reddick played the mysterious role of Matthew Abaddon on the mystery series ‘Lost,’ which aired on ABC from 2008-2009. His supporting roles may be seen in the films ‘Won’t Back Down’ and ‘White House Down,’ both of which were released in 2013. In the suspense movie “The Guest,” which was released in 2014, he played the role of Major Carver, for which he garnered great notoriety. In that year, he appeared in the John Wick film series for the very first time playing the role of Charon.

In the current season of “Corporate” on Comedy Central, he plays the role of the nefarious CEO Christian DeVille. He also plays the role of LAPD chief Irvin Irving in the police procedural drama “Bosch” produced by Amazon Studio. Cedric Daniels, a former deputy commissioner for operations who is now a lawyer, was portrayed by Lance Reddick, who also plays Daniels, in “The Wire,” a crime drama series. The show, which was created by David Simon and broadcast on HBO, aired for a combined total of 630 episodes between June 2, 2002, and March 9, 2008.

On the science fiction series ‘Fringe’ which aired on FOX from 2008 to 2013, Reddick played the role of Phillip Broyles, a Homeland Security special agent who oversaw the Fringe section. Due to the quality of his work, he was nominated for two Saturn Awards. Lance Reddick is a musician as well as an actor from the United States. He is best known for his appearances as Cedric Daniels on “The Wire,” Phillip Broyles on “Fringe,” Detective Johnny Basil on “Oz,” and Matthew Abaddon on “Lost.” Martin Hatch from ‘Quantum Break,’ Sylens from ‘Horizon: Zero Dawn,’ and Commander Zavala from the Destiny series are some of the video game characters who use his voice and likeness. Reddick, who was born and raised in Maryland, attended the illustrious Peabody Institute for the Study of Music.

He spent the summer at the Walden School participating in a program that allowed him to concentrate on the theory and creation of music. After earning his bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University, he continued his education at the Yale School of Theater, where he earned his master’s degree in theater. It was in 1996 that he made his debut on the small screen, appearing in an episode of “New York Undercover.”

Although Reddick is most known for the parts he has played on television, the films in which he has appeared also contributed significantly to the success of his career. He made his debut on the silver screen for the very first time in the 1998 adaptation of Great Expectations that was released in theaters. Since then, he has played roles such as FBI Agent Floyd Rose in ‘The Siege,’ Simon in ‘I Dreamed of Africa,’ Charles Albert in ‘Won’t Back Down,’ and Charon in the John Wick movie.
