Derek Martin is an English actor who has since retired from the industry. He was born Derek William Rapp on April 11, 1933. After starting out as a stuntman, he later transitioned into acting and has appeared in a variety of roles on UK television. One of the parts that brought him the greatest fame was that of Charlie Slater, which he played in the British soap opera EastEnders from the year 2000 to the year 2011, with short cameos in 2013 and 2016.
In 1978, he played Detective Inspector Fred Pyall in the BBC television series Law & Order with Peter Dean. The program was produced in the United Kingdom. In the 1981 and 1982 seasons of the BBC program The Chinese Detective, he portrayed the role of Detective Inspector Berwick in both seasons. In 1982, he became the second actor to play the fictitious Detective Inspector Jack Frost created by R. D. Wingfield. He did so by acting in a BBC radio production of R. D. Wingfield’s novel A Touch of Frost. In 1984, he made a guest appearance on one of the episodes of Minder’s fifth season.
In 1985, he was given the role of the lead in the television show King and Castle, which he shared with Nigel Planer and continued airing for two seasons until 1988. Martin took on the role of ex-police officer Ronald King, who now runs a debt collection business in London’s East End. The character was devised and co-written by The Sweeney creator Ian Kennedy Martin, who also starred in the show. After that, he played the role of Alex Morris in Eldorado. He has also appeared as a guest on a number of other television shows, such as Doctor Who, where he played the role of Constable David Mitchell in the episode Image of the Fendahl, The Sweeney episode “Messenger of the Gods” as the antagonist Spooner, Upstairs, Downstairs, The Bill, and Only Fools and Horses. Martin also had a role in an episode of Little Britain in which he portrayed himself.
It was in September of 2000 that he first appeared on EastEnders playing the role of Charlie Slater. In April 2010, it was revealed that Martin and five other actors had been let go from their roles on the program. Martin was one of the performers let go. He recorded a cameo role on EastEnders at the beginning of 2011, with Charlie’s return to the show scheduled for two episodes during the month of April 2011. At Christmas 2013, he appeared in two further episodes of the show. It was reported on 11 February 2015 that plans for Martin to make a comeback to EastEnders had been called off, but in October, it was confirmed that Martin will make a temporary return for the approaching Christmas and New Year season. On 11 February 2015, it was revealed that plans for Martin to make a return to EastEnders had been called off. His character went into cardiac arrest in the first of two episodes that aired on Thursday, January 7, 2016, and it was the day that he was officially written off the show.
It was disclosed in February 2010 that Martin was going to have surgery on his knee, and the procedure was scheduled to take place around May of the same year. He blamed his issue on his advanced age, playing football, and his previous employment at Smithfield Meat Market, which required him to move meat. On Friday evening, the deaths of Josh Bashford, who was 33 years old, and Chloe Bashford, who was 30 years old, were discovered by the police at a property on Lewes Road in Newhaven. “Our thoughts remain with the families of the two victims during this extremely difficult time,” said Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team. At today’s inquest into their deaths, it was revealed that Josh was discovered in a room on the second story of the house within Newhaven cemetery, while Chloe was located in a room on the ground level.
At the beginning of the inquest, DCI Kimball Edey said that Martin entered a Brighton station approximately 10 minutes before the horrifying discovery was discovered. According to what she said, “Derek Martin went to the Brighton police station and disclosed to a member of the force that he was responsible for the deaths of two people.” “He identified both individuals and provided their addresses. It was claimed by him that this was the location where the murders had taken place. “Although our investigation into the specifics of what took place is still in progress, rest assured that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter.”
“I’d like to thank the public for their understanding and remind them not to speculate or comment on anything that could jeopardize our investigation in the meantime,” she said. “I’d like to thank the public for their understanding.” The victims’ next of kin have been notified, and the police are providing them with assistance at this time. The week after next, a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place. Derek Martin, also known as Derek Glenn, is 64 years old and lives in the Moulsecoomb Way neighborhood of Brighton. He has been charged with two charges of murder. On Monday, he is scheduled to make an appearance at the Magistrates’ Court in Brighton. In addition, he had a role in the short film “Piggy Bank,” which was released in 2004.
