David Howard Thornton Bio

David Howard Thornton is an American actor who is most recognized for playing Art the Clown in the films Terrifier, Mistress Peace Theatre, Terrifier 2, and Bupkis. In these films, he has performed in all of these roles. Other movies, television shows, and video games in which he has appeared include Two Worlds II: Pirates of the Flying Fortress, Ride to Hell: Retribution, Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom, Gotham, The Bravest Knight, The Exigency, Alma’s Way, and starring as the Mean One in The Mean One.

He has also voiced the role of the Mean One in The Mean One. Thornton has provided his voice for a number of characters in a variety of media, including movies, television, and video games. In the video game Two Worlds II: Pirates of the Flying Fortress, which was released in 2011, he provided the voices of Malvic, Volran, and Tengo. Later on, in 2013, he supplied the voices for characters such as Anvil, Dr. Blotter, and Baggy Miner in Ride to Hell: Retribution. He also performed the voices for Shizoku, Metal Mutt, and Toxitoad in Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom. In 2015, he gave Miss Hokusai more voices than he had recorded. He made an appearance as the Joker in the fan-created webseries Nightwing: Escalation from 2016 to 2017, and then went on to make an appearance in Gotham, both of which were productions that contained characters from DC Comics.

In the horror movie Terrifier, which was released in 2016, Thornton played the role of Art the Clown. This performance earned him a nomination for the Fangoria Chainsaw Award in the category of Best Supporting Actor. Terrifier went on to become a cult classic. In the sequel to Terrifier, which was released in 2022, Thornton played Art the Clown once again. On a budget of under $250,000, the film Terrifier 2 made more than $15 million worldwide and garnered positive reviews from film reviewers. It was also successful at the box office. In the horror remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! that was released the same year, 2022, Billy Bob Thornton played the title role in The Mean One.

When Damien Leone and his crew introduced Terrifier to Dread Central many years ago, we immediately recognized that the movie was something really remarkable and astonishingly disturbing in the most positive manner that was possibly imaginable.  “Now, six years later, with millions of Terrifier fans worldwide, we are excited to once again unleash on the big screen this blood-soaked homage to old-school horror and the insanity of Art the Clown,” said Epic Pictures and DREAD CEO and owner Patrick Ewald in a statement. DREAD is a subsidiary of Epic Pictures.

I had taken advantage of criminally cheap airfares for a last-minute Halloween weekend at the United States’ prime frightening destination in the month of October 2021, and I was idling about in Salem, Massachusetts. I was there because Salem is the primary scary destination in the United States. I went to a witch trial, supported local artists by purchasing graphic shirts that were much too thin for comfort, and made it a point to stop by each and every must-see site for a brief photo among the crowds. I even went inside one of Salem’s numerous boutiques that cater specifically to tourists because I was attracted in by the assortment of scary pins that were on sale. After seeing that they were selling Art the Clown from Terrifier, I realized that I had no choice but to purchase him.

“Every once in a while, a film genre gives birth to a generational talent who breaks the mold,” said Steve Menkin, president of Iconic Events. The filmmaker Damien Leone has such a creative and imaginative mind. It was a strange and interesting time for me. Despite the fact that I had seen Terrifier many years before, I never imagined that he would slice his way into the public consciousness in the same manner that Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees had. I commemorated the ten-year anniversary of B.J. McDonnell’s Hatchet III, the third installment in Adam Green’s Grindhouse slasher trilogy, by penning a piece in June that looked back at the film’s history. Despite the fact that I like this series, I think it’s safe to assume that only the most devoted of horror fans would be able to identify Victor Crowley’s face if it were to be depicted on an enamel pin.

On the other hand, the shopkeeper in Salem was unable to contain her enthusiasm over the Terrifier. That’s Art, the Clown right there! “Excellent decision.” The process of creating Terrifier was a straightforward one. Give today’s moviegoers something in a horror movie that they’ve never seen before and they’ll be impressed. When questioned about his film during an interview with Variety, director Damien Leone posed the following question: “Why are people going to come and see our little $35,000 movie when they can go and watch a $50 million Hollywood horror movie?” If David Howard Thornton’s Art the Clown manages to cut Catherine Corcoran’s novel Dawn in half, it is something that will definitely get people talking.

The obvious next issue was who, exactly, would be participating in the conversation. Cross-appeal was presumably limited, despite the fact that Art the Clown created gory waves among the horror community, consistently placed on lists of the finest new age slashers, goriest slashers, extreme horror flicks, and every variant therein. Despite this, the film was a success. There was absolutely no chance that Art, the vicious murder clown, could ever break into the mainstream. Despite this, he went ahead and performed the same thing.

In a statement of his own, Leone said, “Let’s see if you can stomach Art the Clown’s infamous ‘hack saw scene’ on the big screen! Please do not forget to bring your vomit bags.” Iconic Events is in charge of coordinating the theatrical distribution of the film Terrifier. In the 2023 Peacock series Bupkis, Thornton played the part of Art the Clown once again. The character is also scheduled to appear in Terrifier 3, which Thornton also starred in. It has been announced that he will play the role of Shark Bait Zombie in the forthcoming movie Night of the Living Dead 2, as well as the role of Player 2 in the upcoming movie Stream.
