Dan Savage Bio

The author Dan Savage was born on October 7th, 1964. More importantly, in 2010, he established the It Gets Better Project, which is an online campaign to encourage and inspire young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ).

After spending his childhood in Chicago, Savage moved on to further his education at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. When he was still living in Madison, Wisconsin, a buddy told him about an exciting possibility in Seattle: the beginning of an alternative newspaper known as The Stranger. At the time, he was interested in moving to Seattle. Because Savage remarked in passing that every newspaper needs to have an advice column, he was given the opportunity to write one despite the fact that he did not possess the necessary qualifications. “Savage Love” was initially published in 1991 with the intention of being satirical, with the openly gay Savage making fun of the stereotypes that are common in straight advice columns.

However, as time went on, he came to love playing the role of an advice columnist, and while his columns still had a humorous edge to them, he began delivering intelligent solutions to concerns from readers on a wide range of topics, including homosexuality and other types of unusual sexual conduct. At the end of the 1990s, “Savage Love” was becoming a syndicated show all over the United States as a result of the tremendous attraction of his candid relationship counseling. In 2006, the column gave birth to a podcast that was later dubbed “Savage Lovecast,” in addition to a call-in radio show. Since 2001, Savage has served as the editor-in-chief of The Stranger, and since 2007, he has also served as the paper’s editorial director.

After the success of “Savage Love success,” Savage established himself as a media provocateur by making guest appearances on a variety of talk shows, contributing to “This American Life,” and producing a sex counseling show for college students on MTV named “Savage U.” He became well-known for a series of pranks with a political theme that he performed to criticize the homophobic attitudes of conservative politicians. The stunts were executed in order.

Most notably, in 2003, he attempted to develop the word “santorum” in reaction to comments made by former U.S. senator Rick Santorum, who compared homosexual intercourse to “kid rape and bestiality.” This was his answer to the comments made by Santorum. If you search Google for the term “Santorum,” you will get a variety of results, one of which was created by Savage and includes an explanation of what the term “Santorum” means. When Santorum was campaigning for the Republican nomination in 2012, he was irritated by a “Google bomb” that kept appearing in search results even after he had abandoned the concept for good.

Dan Savage is an activist, TV host, and author who is known for his candid conversations about sexuality, relationships, and other social concerns. He is also recognized for his irreverent sense of humor. The sex advice column “Savage Love” written by Savage is featured in newspapers and online forums located all over the world, including the Americas, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

The most recent book to become a best-seller by Dan is titled American Savage, and it is full of his ideas on a variety of topics, ranging from marriage and motherhood to the LGBT movement and the Catholic Church to sex education. Dan’s uninhibited attitude to discussing sexuality and homosexuality earned him the title of “America’s most in-your-face sex writer and gay rights campaigner” from the publication Publisher’s Weekly.

In addition to appearing on CNN, MSNBC, and The Colbert Report, Savage has been a guest on Fresh Air with Terry Gross on NPR, Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, and 20/20 on ABC. Guest lecturing opportunities at universities and colleges all around the United States and Canada are competitively sought after due to Savage’s notoriety and popularity. In September of 2010, Savage and his husband Terry Miller uploaded a video to YouTube with the intention of providing LGBT youngsters who were being bullied with some glimmer of hope.

Savage and Miller wanted to create a personal message to let LGBT students know that “it gets better” after a number of their classmates committed suicide. Savage and Miller wanted to let LGBT youth know that “it gets better.” More than fifty million people have watched videos titled “It Gets Better” that was created as a result of the “It Gets Better Project.” The book “It Gets Better,” which Savage and Miller coedited and which was published in March 2011, was followed by a documentary special of the same name that was broadcast on MTV in February 2012.
