Alexander Armstrong Bio

Alexander Armstrong is a well-known English actor, television and radio presenter, and musician. He first rose to prominence as a member of the comedy partnership known as Armstrong and Miller, which also included former comic Ben Miller. It is his hosting of the BBC quiz program Pointless, as well as the celebrity edition of the show, that brought him the most fame as a television presenter. Other programs that he has hosted include The Best of the Worst, Have I Got News for You, The One Show, Alexander Armstrong’s Big Ask, Don’t Ask Me Ask Britain, and The Imitation Game. He has also presented a large number of other series.

In addition, he has appeared in an assortment of television programs, including but not limited to Beast, Life Begins, Mutual Friends, Doctor Who, and its spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, Tooned, and Danger Mouse. Even though he began his career in music at a later stage, he has already completed the publication of three studio albums, performed with his cover band on tour across the United Kingdom, and presented the Saturday afternoon show on the classical radio station Classic FM.

The youngest of three children, Alexander Henry Fenwick Armstrong was born on March 2, 1970, in Rothbury, Northumberland, England. His father, Henry Angus Armstrong, was a physician, and his mother, Emma Virginia Peronnet, was a magistrate. This made him the youngest of the three children. In the course of his studies at Mowden Hall School in Stocksfield, he began to acquire an interest in music at the age of seven. Subsequently, he participated in the choir at St. Mary’s Music School between the ages of 11 and 13.

After completing his education at Durham School, he went on to study at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a choral scholar. During his last year there, he was a member of the Footlights Dramatic Club. He graduated with a third-class degree in English in 1992. After graduating from Cambridge University in 1992, Alexander Armstrong moved to London with other Cambridge graduates to pursue a career in acting and comedy. He shared a flat with Jez Butterworth, a young writer at the time.

In Notting Hill, he and his first comedy partner, David Wolstencroft, established a comedy club. Soon after, Ben Miller, a fellow Cambridge graduate, joined them there. Miller quickly became his new collaborator. It was in 1996 when Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe that they received a nomination for the “Perrier Award.” Subsequently, in 1997, they presented the comedy sketch program Armstrong and Miller on the Paramount Comedy Channel.

The following three seasons of the program were shown on Channel 4 until the year 2001. Following a brief hiatus, the two individuals reunited for the award-winning project The Armstrong & Miller program, which was produced by the BBC between the years 2007 and 2010.
Acting roles include Strikja on the BBC 4 radio series Saturday Live, Prince Charming in the Christmas pantomime Cinderella on ITV, and Nick, a misanthropic and animal-hating vet on the BBC One comedy Beast. He has also starred in other roles.

His other early achievements included appearing in several commercials, doing voiceovers for animated programs Stressed Eric and The Big Knights, and performing on BBC Radio 4’s The Very World of Milton Jones television program. As the principal actor in the drama series Life Begins (2004-2006), he also portrayed the role of John Weak, an anti-hero, in the comedy Weak at the Top (2005-2006). Additionally, he was the chairman of the board for the Best of the Worst competition on Channel 4.

From 2007 to 2009, he was the host of the show “Don’t Call Me Stupid” on ITV1. In 2008, he was also the presenter and narrator of the show “When We Were Funniest?” and he made many appearances as a guest on the show “Have I Got News for You.”Both the game show Pointless, which he hosts on BBC One, and the documentary Alexander Armstrong’s Very British Holiday, which he also hosts on BBC One, was presented by Alexander Armstrong in the year 2009.

The Great British Weather and Epic Win were both presented by him in 2011, and he was the presenter of Alexander Armstrong’s Big Ask from 2011 to 2013. In 2012 and 2013, he was also a co-host on Prize Island. In 2015, he was the presenter of the documentaries Rome’s Invisible City and Land of the Midnight Sun. It was also revealed that he will be participating in the presentation of the subsequent three parts of the former.

He was the host of Don’t Ask Me Ask Britain in 2017, The Imitation Game, and Saluting Dad’s Army in 2018, and he narrated Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad in 2019-20. Furthermore, he was the presenter of Saluting Dad’s Army in 2018. Alexander Armstrong, a musician with a background in classical music, had mostly limited his singing to the services of his local parish church or to private gatherings until he eventually formed a cover band and embarked on a tour in September and November of 2013.

His first solo voice album, titled A Year of Songs, was published in November of 2015 and quickly climbed to the top of the UK Classical Chart, setting a record that had never been achieved by a comedian-actor before. After spending the first few months of 2016 traveling around the United Kingdom with his band, he released his second album, Upon a Different Shore, in October of the same year. The album reached position No. 8 on the United Kingdom Albums Chart.

This was followed by the publication of his narration of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf for children, which was recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. His third album, titled In a Winter Light, was eventually published in the latter part of 2017. A wedding ceremony took place on August 27, 2003, between Alexander Armstrong and Hannah Bronwen Snow, an event organizer. Hannah is the sister of Esther Walker, a cuisine writer. They have four kids together: Rex, who was born in 2007, Patrick, who was born in 2009, Edward, who was born in 2010, and Henry, who was born in 2014.
