Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian international cricketer who was born on July 23, 1990, is a leg spin bowler for the Indian cricket team in white ball cricket. Chahal has been a member of the Indian cricket squad since 2013. In addition, he is a member of the Haryana team, which competes in domestic cricket, and the Rajasthan Royals team, which competes in the Indian Premier League. He bowls right-arm leg breaks with a breaking action. In the history of Twenty20 Internationals, Chahal was the second player and the first Indian to achieve a six-wicket haul.
He made history by being the first player with a head injury to be awarded the man-of-the-match trophy in an international cricket match. He is a former chess player who used to compete for India on the world chess stage. Chahal was first brought on board by Mumbai Indians in the year 2011. However, during the 2011 Champions League Twenty20, he participated in every game and featured in just one game throughout all three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). That game was played on April 24 against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
During the Final match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he had two wickets and nine wicketless overs, which was vital in enabling Mumbai to defend their total score of 139 and win the tournament. He was acquired by the Royal Challengers for 10 lakh Indian rupees at the player auction for the 2014 Indian Premier League. In the 2014 Indian Premier League, he was honored with the Man of the Match award for his performance against Delhi Daredevils. In the first month of 2018, the Royal Challengers Bangalore participated in the auction for the Indian Premier League and purchased him back.
During the mega auction held in February 2022 for the 2022 Indian Premier League competition, the Rajasthan Royals purchased him. Chahal got a hat-trick and five wickets during the Indian Premier League match on April 18th, 2022, against the Kolkata Knight Riders. During the first match of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, which was played between the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he became the first Indian player to take 300 wickets in Twenty20 matches.
After discovering he would not be playing for India in either the Asia Cup or the World Cup, Chahal signed a contract with the English team Kent County Cricket Club in September 2023 to play for the balance of the 2023 County Championship season. In 2016, he was selected for the 14-man group traveling to Zimbabwe. At the Harare Sports Club on the 11th of June, 2016, he debuted in a One Day International (ODI) match against Zimbabwe. Richmond Mutumbami was the first batsman he dismissed in ODIs.
In the second game, Chahal led his team to triumph by a margin of eight wickets and grabbed three wickets while conceding just 26 runs. He bowled his second over at a pace of 109 kilometers per hour and produced a seam-up delivery. In addition, his bowling performance won him the first bowling performance award. On June 18, 2016, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Zimbabwe in Harare. Malcolm Waller was the player he took wickets against in his maiden Twenty20 International.
On February 1, 2017, he made history by being the first bowler to ever do so for India in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He finished the match against England with statistics of 6/25. Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for the most wickets taken by a legspinner in a Twenty20 International (6/25), and he was the first legspinner ever to achieve both a five-wicket and a six-wicket haul in a Twenty20 International. He finished 2017 with 23 wickets, which was the most of any bowler in Twenty20 Internationals.
Additionally, Chahal achieved this feat in the third Twenty20 International that India played against England on February 1, 2017, becoming the first Indian bowler to do so in Twenty20 Internationals. On the 18th of January 2019, Chahal achieved his second five-wicket haul in a One-Day International match against Australia by capturing 6/42. These were the joint most excellent numbers by an Indian bowler against Australians after Ajit Agarkar in 2003/04, who had the best stats by an Indian bowler against Australians.
These were also the most significant numbers ever recorded by an Indian spinner playing against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In this particular encounter, Australia reached 230 runs in 48.5 overs. Still, India could comfortably chase that total and win the game by seven wickets because of some excellent performances from M.S. Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav. The month of April 2019 saw him get a spot on India’s team to compete in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
His performance in the World Cup concluded with 12 wickets. In November 2019, he became the third bowler for India to collect 50 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals when he did it during the third T20I against Bangladesh. Chahal came in for Ravindra Jadeja in India’s first Twenty20 International match against Australia on December 4, 2020. Jadeja was out with a concussion.
Later, Chahal was awarded the man of the match title, making him the first concussion replacement to get this honor in an international cricket competition. In June of 2021, he was selected to play for India in their One-Day International (ODI) squad when they faced Sri Lanka in a series.
