He is a four-time UFC Welterweight Champion who has successfully defended his championship.  Woodley has been a professional wrestler since 2009, and he has also wrestled for Strikeforce and the MissWoodley was born and reared in Ferguson, Missouri. He was the 11th of 13 children, and his mother raised him when his father abandoned the family when he was young. He was a two-sport athlete in high school, competing in American football and amateur wrestling. In the 160-pound weight class, Woodley won the Missouri 4A.

Men’s State Championship in 2000. Woodley attended the University of Missouri and joined the wrestling program after graduating from McCluer High School in 2000. He was a two-time All-American at the school, in 2003 and 2005. Woodley earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 2005. A career in mixed martial arts On February 7, 2009, Woodley faced Steve Schnider in his first professional fight Woodley then indicated that he would like to fight Jake Shields, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion. Veterans Robbie Lawler and Josh Koscheck were also potential opponents. Woodley, on the other hand, agreed to face Shields as his next opponent. Shields won a close, contentious, and tedious judge’s decision against Woodley.

Following that, Woodley agreed to fight Josh Koscheck, a seasoned veteran. After a fast-paced skirmish, Woodley defeated Koscheck in the first round. Woodley was swiftly signed to battle Carlos Condit, the former UFC interim welterweight champion, for a shot at number one contender status. Condit had a broken knee in the second round, so Woodley won by technical knockout in the second round. After that, Woodley faced Rory MacDonald, who he defeated by unanimous decision. Title Run and Resurgence Woodley came in for an injured Hector Lombard against Dong Hyun Kim in China, wasting no time following the humiliating setback. Woodley returned to title contention with a spectacular first-round knockout of the overconfident Kim. Woodley was forced to retire for a year and a half after the Gastelum fight. He had contracted to fight former welterweight champion

Johny Hendricks, at the end of 2015, however, Hendricks had drastically missed weight during the weigh-ins, and the bout was scrapped due to health concerns, with Hendricks unable to safely cut the remaining weight in time. Here Comes the Champion Following that, Woodley was promised a title opportunity, which he got at UFC 201 in the early summer of 2016. Woodley rose to the occasion, frequently citing Muhammad Ali, the Greatest of All Time, throughout the build-up to the bout. To win the new UFC welterweight champion, Woodley put on an Ali-Liston-esque performance by knocking out Lawler in the first round. Woodley initially rejected rightful contender Stephen Thompson after the fight, instead focusing on the dangerous Nick Diaz, who had just served a nearly two-year sentence for marijuana use. Diaz was singled out by Woodley for UFC 202, which would take place just three weeks after UFC 201 and feature a big-money rematch between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Diaz’s brother Nate Diaz. Former champion Georges St. Pierre was also suggested by Woodley as a potential opponent.

On April 30, 2009, Woodley fought Jeff Carstens in his second professional fight. In the first round, he won the fight by submission. Strikeforce In St. Louis, Missouri, Woodley made his Strikeforce debut against Sal Woods. On June 6, 2009, the fight took place at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields. Woodley submitted late in the first round to win the battle. Following the victory, Woodley was signed to a six-fight deal by Strikeforce. On the Strikeforce Challengers: Kennedy vs. Cummings card, Woodley made his second appearance for Strikeforce. In the second round, he defeated Zach Light by submission.

Woodley won his third bout for Strikeforce, defeating Rudy Bears by arm-triangle submission on the Strikeforce Challengers: Woodley vs. Bears card. Woodley’s next fight was at Strikeforce Challengers: Lindland vs. Casey in Portland, Oregon, against Nathan Coy.On March 2, 2019, Woodley fought Kamaru Usman in the co-main event of UFC 235, in the fifth defense of his welterweight title.  Woodley was outclassed throughout the fight and lost by unanimous decision, putting an end to his nearly three-year tenure as welterweight champion. After the tournament, On June 29, 2019, at UFC on ESPN 3, a rematch with Robbie Lawler was set to take place. Woodley was pulled from the bout on May 16, 2019, after suffering a hand injury

Nashville, Tennessee, Woodley faced Tarec Saffiedine. Woodley was declared the winner by unanimous decision. Following the victory, Woodley was offered a contract extension by Strikeforce. Woodley fought Paul Daley at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson, replacing Evangelista Santos. Woodley won a unanimous decision over Daley. At Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine, Woodley faced Canadian prospect Jordan Mein. Woodley was victorious in a split decision. On July 14, 2012, Woodley fought Nate Marquardt for the vacant Strikeforce Welterweight Championship at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Woodley made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut against Jay Hieron on February 2, 2013, at UFC 156, replacing an injured Erick Silva.

Woodley won the bout by KO in the first round after only 36 seconds. On June 15, 2013, at UFC 161, Woodley faced Jake Shields. Woodley was defeated by a split decision. Woodley next fought Josh Koscheck on November 16, 2013 at UFC 167.n the main fight of UFC on ESPN: Woodley vs. Burns on May 30, 2020, Woodley fought Gilbert Burns.Woodley would lose by unanimous decision after being controlled for the majority of the bout. n March 21, 2020, at UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs. Edwards, Woodley was slated to fight Leon Edwards. He most recently battled veteran Andre Galvao, who he defeated by first-round TKO following a dominant performance in which Galvao appeared pitifully powerless. Woodley talked about receiving a title chance against the victor of the welterweight title fight between Nick Diaz and KJ Noons later that night in his post-fight interview.

However, he was not given the opportunity to compete for the championship. Woodley then fought Tarec Saffiedine in a Challengers bout, which he won unanimously. He then stepped in for Evangelista Santos against fellow Strikeforce contender and UFC veteran Paul Daley with around a month’s notice. In a close unanimous decision, he defeated Daley. After that, Woodley will take on Jordan Mein, a well-rounded Canadian prospect. He won a close split decision over Mein. Woodley made his UFC debut on a month’s notice, replacing an injured Erick Silva against Bellator/Strikeforce veteran Jay Hieron, after Strikeforce closed its doors and dissolved its roster into the UFC. Woodley knocked Hieron out in a flash, earning Knockout of the Night honours and making a big impression in his UFC debut. For about a month and a half, Woodley gave Thompson the runaround, enraging fans and claiming to be “as tough as

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor” when it came to negotiating the amount he’d be paid to fight Thompson. Finally, for an undisclosed sum, he accepted to defend his title against Thompson at the UFC’s inaugural Madison Square Garden event in November 2016. The fight itself, on the other hand, lived up to the hype; the two boxers fought to a split draw or something like if my memory serves me well. Woodley agreed to a rematch with Thompson right away, which resulted in another close battle that was more akin to a chess match, with most of the fight favouring Thompson. It was a tedious but tactical fight until the later rounds, when Woodley started landing and dropping Thompson, scoring a tight decision victory and putting an end to Thompson’s title dreams for the time being. Fights Woodley then faced prospect Kelvin Gastelum, who he defeated by a split decision in a fight that will go down in history. Woodley was furious after his bout with Gastelum. Woodley went on to say that he would only take a rematch if it was for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title. Indeed, Woodley was followed by Nate Marquardt, a newbie to Strikeforce and a veteran of the UFC. With a stunning sequence of punches and elbows, Marquardt knocked out Woodley in the fourth round, giving him his first loss. A career in the MMA Strikeforce drew a line in the sand after they drew

However, due to COVID-19’s constraints, Edwards was forced to withdraw, and the event was later postponed inde On September 19, 2020, Woodley faced the longtime foe, Colby Covington, in a UFC on ESPN+ 36 match. Woodley was overpowered for four rounds, much like his last two battles. After replacing Hector Lombard, Woodley faced Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 48 on August 23, 2014. He won the bout in the first round by TKO. Woodley also received his first Performance of the Night bonus award as a result of the win.

He also received his first Knockout of the Night bonus for the victory. At UFC 171, Woodley challenged former Interim Welterweight Champion, Carlos Condit. After Condit suffered a knee injury in the second round, Woodley won via TKO. Woodley’s new eight-bout contract with the UFC was revealed on April 8, 2014, along with his battle against Rory MacDonald at UFC 174. He was defeated by a unanimous decision. On October 3, 2015, at UFC 192, Odley was scheduled to battle Johny Hendricks.  Hendricks was forced to withdraw from the fight on October 2, 2015, owing to weight-cutting issues.

Welterweight Championship of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). On July 30, 2016, in the main event of UFC 201, Woodley met welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. He took the UFC Welterweight Championship by knocking out his opponent halfway through the first round. He won the Performance of the Night award as a result of this victory.  At UFC 205 on November 12, 2016, Woodley successfully defended his championship against Stephen Thompson. Woodley won the bout by a majority decision, with two judges scoring it 47–47 and the third 48–47 in his favour.  Both combatants were then given additional honours for Fight of the Night.  Thompson fought again in the main event of UFC 209 on March 4, 2017.

Woodley won by majority decision in yet another closely contested fight.  On July 29, 2017, in the co-main event of UFC 214, Woodley made his third championship defence against Demian Maia. By unanimous decision, he won the battle.  In the first round, Woodley tore his labrum in his right shoulder, which he revealed after the fight.
