Bio

Tony Yayo is the stage name of American rapper Marvin Bernard, who was born on March 31, 1978. Bernard is better known by his stage name. His early friendships with 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks led to the formation of the hip hop group G-Unit, in which he is most recognized for his role as a member. Thoughts of a Predicate Felon was Yayo’s first and only studio album, and it was released in 2005. The album made its debut on the Billboard 200 chart at position number two. His real name is Tony Montana, and his stage name is Yayo, which is a slang word for cocaine. His stage name is a reference to the film Scarface, which was released in 1983. Marvin Bernard was the youngest of three children born to Haitian parents and was given the name Yayo when he was born in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City.  When Bernard was 16 years old, his parents went through a divorce.

When he was 15 years old, he started dealing narcotics and quit school when he was in the ninth grade. As a child, he met his lifelong friends Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent, and eventually, the three of them formed a group called G-Unit and began working on music together. They released a number of mixtapes in the early 2000s, including 2002’s 50 Cent is the Future, No Mercy, No Fear, and God’s Plan. Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent are two of his closest friends to this day. After the success of his first studio album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, G-Unit boss 50 Cent was awarded his own record label by Interscope and given the name “G-Unit Records” in the year 2003. This occurred while Yayo was serving time in prison. 50 quickly attracted G-Unit members Yayo and Lloyd Banks to the label. Eventually, Young Buck was also signed and became the official fourth member of the group after being added as a result of the previous two signings.

Beg for Mercy was the first official album that G-Unit released as a group and was released in November of 2003. The album went on to be certified four times platinum in the United States of America.  Although Yayo was incarcerated and serving time on firearms charges at the time of the album’s release, he was nevertheless featured on the project in some capacity. In July of 2008, G-Unit released their second studio album, titled T.O.S: Terminate on Sight, which quickly became a commercial success, selling 102,000 copies in its first week of release alone. Although his presence on multiple mixtapes both during and after his release from prison indicated his comeback on a street level, Yayo did not receive national notoriety until the release of his debut single, “So Seductive,” which featured 50 Cent. Tony Yayo released his first studio album, titled Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, in August of 2005.

The album debuted at position No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Tony Yayo’s debut studio album, titled Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, was issued by Interscope Records in 2003 after the label had signed him as a recording artist. After some time, in 2009, he was dismissed from the label. On Friday, August 13, 2010, Lloyd Banks made the announcement that EMI Label Services had signed a deal with 50 Cent’s record label, G-Unit Records. As part of this agreement, EMI Label Services will distribute and promote releases on the G-Unit roster in North America. This includes Yayo’s upcoming album, which does not yet have a title. Yayo was one of the individuals who was taken into custody on December 31, 2002, along with 50 Cent, for possessing guns. In the trunk of his automobile, he carried a handgun model Glock 20 as well as an assault rifle model Colt AR-15. Yayo was found guilty of bail jumping and served a year in prison after the police learned that Yayo had an outstanding warrant for a previous offense.

The warrant stemmed from an earlier incident. After serving his sentence at the Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility, Yayo was finally released on parole on January 8, 2004.  He was taken into custody the following day for being in possession of a falsified passport and remained there until February 24, 2004, when he was released from federal prison. G-Unit and Eminem launched a campaign under the name “Free Yayo” while Yayo was serving time in prison. Yayo has stated that he did not become aware of the attention that the campaign was gaining until he watched Eminem performing at the 2003 Grammy Awards while wearing a “Free Yayo” T-shirt.  “Ain’t No Click’,” which was included on Lloyd Banks’ debut album The Hunger For More and was released in June of 2004, was the first song on which Yayo appeared after being released from prison.

Tony Yayo was taken into custody on March 24, 2007, on allegations that he had assaulted Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond’s son, who was then 14 years old. It was alleged that Yayo and 50 Cent, together with members of their entourage, approached the boy and pushed him against a nearby wall. According to reports, Yayo gave the boy many slaps and told him to “Fuck Czar Entertainment.” Yayo entered a plea of “not guilty,” and 50 Cent has now produced video evidence demonstrating that he was at his Connecticut estate at the time of the alleged event, so establishing that he is innocent. Tony Yayo was brought before a judge for the first time on the morning of April 25, 2007, in the city of New York. The court session was postponed until July 24.

In an interview with MTV, Tony Yayo’s attorney commented on the subject and stated that he believes his client to be innocent of the charges against him: Tony Yayo has stated that he is currently hard at work on his second album to be recorded in a studio. There is currently no final consensus over the album’s moniker. The song “Pass the Patron” is the first single to be released from the album, and it features 50 Cent.

The album will be released by G-Unit Records and EMI, and both companies will be responsible for the album’s promotion and distribution. Haters were the second single that Yayo released off his upcoming album on March 2, 2011, and it was titled “Haters.” Shawty Lo, 50 Cent, and Roscoe Dash are all featured on this track. After having its world debut on Hot 97 by Funkmaster Flex, the single was then made available for download on Thisis50.com. The record quickly began to achieve popularity on the urban radio charts, and it made its debut on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B chart not long after that.
