Bio

Todrick Hall is a YouTuber from the United States. Todrick Hall born April 4, 1985, is a singer, songwriter, choreographer, and YouTuber from the United States. He rose to national prominence after auditioning for the ninth season of American Idol in August 2009 in Dallas, Texas. He performed a self-written song in which he mentioned the judges – Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and guest judge Joe Jonas – to make his case for inclusion in the show.

Years later, when he thinks back on his Idol experiences, he is most proud of his audition song for demonstrating his creativity and what he does; it is his favorite memory of his time on the show. All four agreed to his participation, and he proceeded to Hollywood week and, eventually, the semi-finals. He performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” in the Top 24 and Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It” in the Top Twenty. On March 11, 2010, he was eliminated in the

Top 16 after his rendition of Queen’s “Somebody to Love”; he was one of four contestants eliminated in that round, and thus ranked between 13th and 16th overall.  Judge Simon Cowell dismissed Hall, saying he “wouldn’t amount to anything more than a Broadway actor.” In retrospect, Hall regretted not being his authentic gay self; he even had a girl waiting outside for his post-audition walk with his golden ticket; he vowed, to be honest, going forward, even if it meant less commercial success.

Hall returned to Broadway in August 2010 with the musical Memphis. In contrast to producing shows and managing staff, Hall believes that his Broadway work was less stressful because he was an employee who did his job and then was done. He was in charge of all aspects of production as a producer. 2011–2013: Professional advancement and YouTube fame Hall’s audience has grown significantly: as of June 2019, he has 3.1 million YouTube subscribers, and his videos have been viewed 531.9 million times as of March 2018.

Among Hall’s videos are several of his original songs and music videos, choreographed flash mobs for Ariana Grand, and Beyoncé performed in an actual Target store the latter of which Beyoncé personally recognized Hall for musical collaborations with Pentatonix, and personal updates. In May 2011, he released a video audition for the third season of the televised singing competition American Idol, where he placed ninth. Todrick Hall was born in Plainview, Texas, a farming community in the state’s panhandle, on April 4, 1985.

He was raised by a single mother until his mother married when he was a teen, at which point he gained a brother and a stepfather.  The family would later relocate to Dallas. He was a big fan of The Wizard of Oz as a kid. As an adult, he would create Oz, the Musical; The Wizard of Ahhhs, a pop song featuring the pop a cappella quintet Pentatonix; and Straight Out of Oz, a visual album and tour. Hall was inspired to pursue the arts by a Dallas elementary school teacher, who introduced him to the theatre, the orchestra, and ballet.

Hall is gay, and he came out to his family when he was 15 years old. At the age of 16, he began performing on weekends at the amusement park Six Flags Over Texas, where he first combined singing and dancing.  He also performed on Royal Caribbean, Holland America Line, and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts cruises.

Hall attributes his tenacious work ethic to a lack of opportunities in making it to the semi-finals. Following that, he amassed a YouTube following through viral videos that included original songs, parodies, and skits. He aspires to be a role model for LGBTQ and people of color, and his art incorporates his experiences as a Black gay man.

Todrick, a documentary series about his video-making process, aired on MTV in 2015. In March 2018, he released Forbidden, the follow-up visual album to Straight Outta Oz. To promote the album, Hall embarked on Forbidden: The Tour, which took him to the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand Hall announced in May 2019 that he will release a trilogy of extended plays over the next six months. The first EP, Haus Party, Pt. 1, with the first single “Glitter,” was released on May 16, 2019. The EP also included the hit “Nails, Hair, Hips, and Heels,” which was remixed by Ciara.

The EPs were supported by the Haus Party World Tour. Part Two was supposed to come out in July 2019, but it was pushed back to September 19, 2019. It was supported by the singles “Wig,” “Fag,” and “Dripeesha” (the latter of which featured Tiffany Haddish).
