Susan Anton Bio

Susan Ellen Anton is a well-known singer and actress in the United States. Yucaipa High School, located in Yucaipa, California, is where Anton received his diploma in the year 1968. Anton continued his education at San Bernardino Valley College after graduating from high school. She originally came to prominence after winning the 1969 Miss Redlands and Miss California beauty contests, both of which took place in 1969.

She then competed in and finished in a tie for second place in the 1969 Miss America Scholarship Pageant, which took place on September 6 of that year. In the later part of the 1970s, Anton made around 30 appearances on the television show Merv Griffin. She was a familiar face and voice in various advertisements for Serta’s Perfect Sleeper mattress, which appeared on television, in print, and on the radio. In these advertisements, she introduced herself and sang the jingle for the company.

Mel and Susan Together was a summertime variety show that aired on ABC in 1978 and starred both her and country artist Mel Tillis. The show was produced by the Osmond Brothers. The pairing of Anton and Tillis was an improbable one due to the fact that Anton was well-known in country music circles but was not exactly a household name on a national scale, and Susan was almost unknown. The show was only on the air for a total of four weeks when it was canceled; despite this, she was later selected as one of Time magazine’s “Most Promising Faces of 1979.”

Later in her career, she became the star of her own variety show called Presenting Susan Anton, one of the three serials that made up the Cliffhangers series called Stop Susan Williams, and the films Goldengirl, Spring Fever, and Cannonball Run II. She also made music recordings, with the song “Killin’ Time” (a duet with country artist Fred Knoblock) becoming her most successful release in 1980. The record reached number 10 on Billboard’s country charts and number 28 on the Hot 100 chart of Billboard. In the episode of the television comedy series Night Court that was titled “The Talk Show” that Anton appeared in during the year 1990, she portrayed the role of talk show producer Margo Hunter.

The character Anton appears on the front cover of the mass-market paperback edition of Peter Lovesey’s novel Goldengirl, which was published under the alias Peter Lear. She had already played the lead role in the film adaptation, which was directed by Joseph Sargent and featured James Coburn. At the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas, where the production “Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular” was performed for almost 5,000 times before it closed on July 31, 2000, Anton was the event’s host throughout its entire run. She was also seen on Broadway in The Will Rogers Follies, Hurlyburly, and All Shook Up, in addition to performing in the Las Vegas production of the musical Hairspray.

She had a recurrent part in the television series Baywatch from 1992 to 1994. She has also featured as herself on the television shows Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (2006), The Larry Sanders Show (1993), and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show (1987), in addition to a number of films. The most recent film in which she starred was Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, which came out in 2016. On March 31, 2010, an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” with Anton as a guest star aired on television.

In the production of Hairspray that was going to take place at the Hollywood Bowl from August 5 to August 7, 2011, she was supposed to play the part of Velma Von Tussle once again. In the year 2020, Anton was featured as the character Carree Tole in the psychological thriller motion picture Painter. Moore was 5 feet 2.5 inches (1.588 m) and Anton was 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) tall when they were involved in a highly publicized romance in the early 1980s. Much was made of the disparity in their heights, with Anton being 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) tall and Moore being 5 feet 2.5 inches (1.588 m). On August 15, 1992, Anton wed television actor Jeff Lester, marking the beginning of her second marriage.

Over the course of more than 35 years, Susan Anton has been celebrated as a multi-talented international star in a variety of mediums, including television, film, theater, and concert halls. She received a nomination for a Golden Globe for her performance in her debut film, Goldengirl (1979), and shortly after that, NBC signed her up to star in her very own variety show, which they called Presenting Susan Anton (1979). Later on, ABC offered her a development agreement, and she ended up starring in the hour-long drama Cliffhangers for the network. Over the course of her career, she has participated in a vast number of film and television productions.

Her career on Broadway includes co-starring with the original Broadway cast of the Tony Award–winning musical “The Will Rogers Follies” by Tommy Tune. She also collaborated with director Mike Nichols on David Rabe’s Pulitzer Prize–winning play “Hurlyburly.” In the Las Vegas version of the Broadway musical “Hairspray,” she co-starred as “Velma Von Tussle” opposite Harvey Fierstein. The production of “Hairspray” was directed by Jack O’Brien, who won the Tony Award for directing, and Jerry Mitchell, who won the Tony Award for choreography.

She then proceeded to perform the role for three outstanding evenings at the Hollywood Bowl alongside an all-star cast. Jerry Mitchell was in charge of directing and choreographing the production. She had a co-starring role in the national tour of the Broadway musical “All Shook Up,” which was directed by Christopher Ashley and had Sergio Trujillo as the choreographer. Susan was a star in the Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular for seven years, during which she performed alongside the illustrious Radio City Rockettes under the direction of the late Joe Layton.

In addition, she performed on tour in the Neil Simon and Marvin Hamlisch production of “They’re Playing Our Song,” after which she went on to co-star alongside Elizabeth Ashley in the national tour production of “A Couple of White Chicks Sitting Around Talking.” She has performed on stage alongside iconic performers such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Tom Jones, and a great many others. She went on tour with country music superstar Kenny Rogers and had a country success with the song “Killing Time” which reached the top 10 on the country music charts.

Her recording career was successful on a global scale, and the gold record she earned for her hit song “Foxy” was presented to her. Since Susan and her husband, director Jeff Lester, moved to Las Vegas more than two decades ago, the city has been their permanent residence. They named their production firm “Big Picture Studios” and started it in the year 1997. Under their banner, Susan executive produced the critically acclaimed film The Last Real Cowboys (2000), which starred the eventual winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture, Billy Bob Thornton.

Susan also executive produced the documentary Speed of Life (2008), which featured Amy Purdy, the motivational bronze medalist from Sochi who was also the runner-up in the previous season of Dancing with the Stars (2005). Spa Girl Cocktails is a brand new company that will be launching in the latter half of 2015, and Susan is a celebrity brand ambassador as well as a minority partner in the company.
