Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine, on September 21, 1947. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and went on to work as a teacher while following his dream of becoming a novelist. King’s first horror book, Carrie, was a massive hit, and he also published work under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. King has developed a reputation for writing books that are both commercially popular and critically acclaimed over the years. His books have sold over 350 million copies around the world and have been made into a number of popular movies.
For education, King remained close to home, enrolling at the University of Maine at Orono. He wrote for the school newspaper and was a member of the student government there. King’s first short storey was published in Startling Mystery Stories when he was still in school.
He tried unsuccessfully to find work as a teacher after graduating with a degree in English in 1970. King got a job in a laundry and continued to write stories in his spare time until late 1971, when he started working at Hampden Academy as an English teacher. In the same year, he married Tabitha Spruce, a fellow journalist.
King’s first book, Carrie, about a tormented teen seeking vengeance on her peers, was released in 1973. After the book was released the following year, it was a major hit, enabling him to devote his time completely to writing. It was later adapted for the big screen, with Sissy Spacek playing the lead. Salem’s Lot (1975), The Shining (1977), Firestarter (1980), Cujo (1981), and IT (1981) were among the famous novels that followed (1986).
King wrote several books as Richard Bachman while writing novels featuring violent, rabid dogs and sewer-dwelling creatures, as seen in Cujo and IT, respectively. Since King was worried that the public would not tolerate more than one book from an author in a year, he published four early novels under the moniker: Rage (1977), The Long Walk (1979), Roadwork (1981), and The Running Man (1982). After seeing a novel by Richard Stark on his desk (actually a pseudonym used by Donald Westlake) and hearing “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” by Bachman Turner Overdrive on his record player at the time, he came up with the alias.
Aerosmith regained prominence in 1986, when Tyler and Perry appeared on Run–cover D.M.C.’s of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” a track that fused elements of hip-hop and rock, breaking down barriers between the two genres, introducing rap to a new generation, and introducing Aerosmith to a new generation. The song peaked at #4 on the charts and was accompanied by a well-known music video that received widespread airplay. This laid the groundwork for Aerosmith’s successful comeback. Tyler and Perry renewed their songwriting partnership, but were also collaborating with outside writers brought in by the record company, such as Desmond Child and Jim Vallance. Aerosmith enlisted producer Bruce Fairbairn’s assistance in developing a polished sound accessible to a mass audience. Permanent Vacation was released by Aerosmith in 1987 and became a massive multiplatinum success, spawning three top-20 hits (“Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Angel,” and “Rag Doll”).
The band embarked on a tour with the newly formed Guns N’ Roses, serving as the opening act for numerous shows. Tyler expanded his musical horizons significantly with Pump, co-writing the groundbreaking hit “Janie’s Got a Gun,” which earned the band its first Grammy. The band toured alongside a number of emerging acts and made their first appearances in countries such as Australia. Tyler also made guest appearances on late 1980s albums by comedian Sam Kinison, Alice Cooper (another ’70s rocker making a successful comeback), and Mötley Crüe. Tyler and Perry then performed “Walk This Way” at a Bon Jovi concert in Milton Keynes. The band became an MTV sensation, and Tyler became a household name, following the success of Permanent Vacation and Pump. In 1990, the band was featured on a “Wayne’s World” sketch on Saturday Night Live, which is ranked as the show’s most memorable moment.
Aerosmith also recorded an episode of MTV Unplugged that year. Aerosmith was one of the first bands to appear on The Simpsons, appearing in 1991. Additionally, that year, the band signed a $30 million record deal with Columbia, for which they would begin recording the following year. Columbia released the box set Pandora’s Box in late 1991, and the band promoted the release with a music video for the track “Sweet Emotion.” Earlier this year, the band performed “Dream On” with an orchestra at MTV’s 10-year anniversary celebration; their filmed performance served as the song’s official video.
The band returned to the studio in 1992, following a brief hiatus, to record their next album. John Kalodner, the band’s A&R man, chastised some of the early material considered for this album, focusing in particular on Tyler’s sexually profane lyrics. However, the band resumed recording in 1993 and released Get a Grip, which became their most successful album worldwide, selling over 15 million copies and spawning a string of hit singles (“Cryin'”, “Livin’ on the Edge”, “Eat the Rich”, “Amazing”, and “Crazy”). While the album received mixed reviews and was criticised for an excessive reliance on outside collaborators, Aerosmith won more awards during this period than any other act, including two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, two American Music Awards, a People’s Choice Award, and a Billboard Award
Holloway, and, most notably, Alicia Silverstone. Liv Tyler made her acting debut in the band’s 1994 music video for “Crazy.” Additionally, the band embarked on their largest and most extensive tour to date, performing over 240 shows in nearly 30 countries, including their first time touring Latin America and performing in a number of European countries. 1996 – Tyler The band took a break in 1995 to spend time with their families following the conclusion of the 18-month Get a Grip Tour in December 1994. They required rest following a gruelling decade under manager Tim Collins, who was instrumental in orchestrating the band’s comeback and sustained success.
Tyler and Perry have also begun writing for a new album, and the band recently played a pair of one-off shows in Boston to test out the new material. Additionally, they spent time in Florida with their families. Aerosmith, on the other hand, came dangerously close to disbanding after Tim Collins spread rumours about band members mocking one another and Tyler being unfaithful to his wife and relapsing on drugs during Miami recording sessions. Collins was later let go by the band in 1996, while they were in the midst of recording their follow-up album. They released Nine Lives in 1997, which went double platinum, spawned three chart-topping singles (“Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees), “Hole in My Soul,” and “Pink”), and earned the band their fourth Grammy nomination for “Pink”. They embarked on a promotional tour in support of ov
