Stephen Tyrone Colbert was born on May 13, 1964 in Washington, District of Columbia, although he spent his childhood in Charleston, South Carolina. His name is pronounced “col-BEAR.” James William Colbert, Jr., a physician and the medical school dean at Yale, Saint Louis University, and MUSC, and Lorna Elizabeth (Tuck), his mother, are his parents. He is their son.

He is the eleventh and last kid of a family that is Irish Catholic. He is the youngest of his siblings. Before collaborating with fellow cast members Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello to produce the sketch comedy Exit 57 (1995) for Comedy Central, Stephen received training in acting at Northwestern University. Before to that, he was a member of the Second City comedy company in Chicago.

It ran for two seasons in the middle of the 1990s and received five nominations for the CableACE Awards, including for outstanding writing, performance, and comedy series. With the cancellation of Exit 57 (1995) in 1997, Stephen began working as a reporter for The Daily Show (1996), which was being hosted at the time by Craig Kilborn. Stephen left The Daily Show in October 2005.

Before obtaining his own program, The Colbert Report (2005), which has done well in its position after The Daily Show, Stephen was initially branded as “The New Man,” but he became the show’s longest-running reporter during the course of his time on the show (1996). Stephen had been a reporter on The Daily Show for the longest amount of time and had the most varied background when he departed the show in 1996.

In addition to his role as Senior Political Correspondent, he was also one of the hosts of “Even Stepheven,” a point-counterpoint assault featuring co-correspondent Steve Carell, and the host of “This Week in God,” a recurring segment in which he reported on all things theological with the assistance of the “God Machine.” Both of these roles were in addition to his role as Senior Political Correspondent.

Stephen was a contributing author to “America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction” (Warner Books), which shot to the top of the New York Times bestseller list and remained there for 15 consecutive weeks. Stephen was also instrumental in helping The Daily Show (1996) win a number of Emmy and Peabody Awards. His personality, intelligence, and leftist political satire could only have led him to The Colbert Report (2005).

A nightly platform for him to give his tongue-in-cheek take on the issues of the day, and more importantly, to tell you why he thinks everyone else’s take is just plain wrong. The Colbert Report aired on Comedy Central from 2005 to 2011. His other notable credits include writing for Saturday Night Live (1975) and The Dana Carvey Show (1996), as well as providing the voice of Ace in Robert Smigel’s “Ambiguously Gay Duo,” which debuted on The Dana Carvey Show (1996) and was a semi-regular feature in Smigel’s “TV Funhouse” segment on SNL.

Other notable credits include writing for Saturday Night Live (1975) and writing for The Dana Carvey Show (1996 In addition, he appeared in ads for the “Mr. Goodwrench” brand (2003-2005). In 1996, he was a cast member on “The Dana Carvey Show” as well as a writer for the show. Other cast members were Steve Carell, Robert Smigel, and Dino Stamatopoulos. However, the series was canceled because viewers found the humor offensive.

Although he was a hilarious reporter for ‘Good Morning America,’ just one of his parts was ever broadcast; nonetheless, Madeline Smithberg, the producer of The Daily Show, recruited him on a trial basis in 1997. He, together with Sedaris and Dinello, contributed to the creation of a new comedy series for Comedy Central called Strangers with Candy. The program, which is now considered to be a cult classic, ran for a total of 32 episodes during the years 1999 and 2000.

In 2003, he collaborated with Sedaris and Dinero on the writing of a satirical novel titled Wigfield: The Can Do Town That Just May Not. The book is about a little town that is in danger of being flooded away due to the imminent demolition of a dam. His humor was directed at both President Bush and the media at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in 2006, when he was performing as the featured artist.

The crowd was left speechless by his shocking revelation, but he quickly became an online and media celebrity. In 2007, he attempted to get a nomination for the Democratic Party from the state of South Carolina; however, his application was denied on the grounds that he was not a serious contender; hence, he withdrew from the campaign.
He went to Baghdad in 2009 with the purpose of filming a program called Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando.

In order to demonstrate his support for the armed forces, he got a military haircut and shaved his head. Colbert has been honored with many Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on The Daily Show. Among these accolades is one for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Show, which was awarded jointly to his writing staff.
In 2010, he was awarded a Grammy for A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All, which competed in the category of Best Comedy Album.

He split the prize with the sound engineering crew as well as the producers. Throughout the years 2005 and 2013, Stephen Colbert and the cast and crew of The Colbert Report were honored with two Primetime Emmy Awards for Best Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Show as well as Outstanding Variety Series.
