Simon McBurney Bio

Simon Montagu McBurney OBE is a well-known English actor, dramatist, and theatrical director. He was birth on August 25, 1957, in England. He established the Théatre de Complicité in London and was the theater’s creative director. The Manchurian Candidate, Friends with Money, The Last King of Scotland, The Golden Compass, The Duchess, Robin Hood, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Magic in the Moonlight.

The Theory of Everything, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation are some of the movies in which he has appeared. In the BBC show “The Vicar of Dibley,” he played Cecil, the choirmaster. A Disappearing Number was a performance conceived by and directed by McBurney. It took as its inspiration the narrative of the partnership between two of the most outstanding pure mathematicians of the 20th century, the Indian genius Srinivasa Ramanujan and the Cambridge professor G.H. Hardy. McBurney developed the piece and directed it. In the fall of 2008, it was performed at the Barbican and then went on tour abroad. McBurney was the director of the Complicite performance Shun-kin, which was staged in February 2009 and based on two texts by Jun’ichiro Tanizaki. 2010 saw production take place in both London and Tokyo for it.

McBurney directed several productions on a freelance basis, including The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui (2008) and All My Sons (2008), both of which took place in New York City. He also directed several live comedy acts, including Lenny Henry’s So Much Things To Say in 2000 and French and Saunders’ Live.

McBurney is a well-known actor in the film industry. In the movie “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” (2011), he was cast as the part of MI6 agent Nigel, and he then starred in “The Theory of Everything” (2014) as the character of astrophysicist Frank Hawking. In the BBC series “Rev.” (which aired from 2010 to 2014), he also portrayed the part of Archdeacon Robert.

One of the most memorable performances that McBurney has given on stage was in the 2014 production of “The Elephant Man” on Broadway. McBurney portrayed the character of Frederick Treves, a doctor who takes in John Merrick, a disfigured man who becomes a celebrity in Victorian London. McBurney performed the part of Frederick Treves in the play. The New Yorker referred to McBurney’s performance as “mesmerizing,” while The New York Times lauded it as a “compelling, understated performance.” McBurney’s work got widespread praise for its quality.

In the BBC comedy television series Rev., which aired from 2010 to 2014, he played the part of Archdeacon Robert during those years. In the first installment of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows film series (2010), McBurney lent his voice to the character of Kreacher. In the television series The Borgias, he played the role of Johannes Burchart, an authority in canon law. He was awarded the title of Artiste Associé for the 66th Avignon Festival in 2012. He played the lead role in The Encounter, which had its world debut at the 2015 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The film is about a photographer named Loren McIntyre who gets lost in the Javari Valley in Brazil and his interactions with the people. In the film Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which was released in July 2015, he played the role of Atlee, the director of MI6, and in the horror film sequel The Conjuring 2, which was released in 2016, he played the role of paranormal investigator Maurice Grosse.

In 2007, he was introduced to Cassandra “Cassie” Yukawa, a concert pianist. After being married, they moved out of their old home in north London and settled down with their three children in Stroud, located in Gloucestershire. Diane Yukawa, a well-known violinist, is his sister-in-law.

McBurney was honored with the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) “for services to Drama” as part of the 2005 New Year’s Honours. He now holds the position of Ambassador for Survival International, a worldwide organization that advocates for the rights of indigenous peoples.
