Sheryl Crow was born on February 11, 1962. There are three members of her family: older sisters Kathy and Karen and younger brother Steve. She developed a deep connection to music at a young age, and by the time she was 6, she was already playing the piano. She graduated from Kennett High School and enrolled at the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1984. She used to sing in a local band called Cashmere while attending college.
Upon her graduation from college in 1986, Crow began working as a music teacher in a St. Louis primary school; however, she soon relocated to Los Angeles. She moved to Los Angeles and did session work as a backup singer and recording artist. Singer-songwriter-actress Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born in the United States. In addition to being a longtime favorite in the country music scene, she has won multiple Grammys. She has had a magnificent musical career, releasing eight studio albums, two compilations, a live album, and singing on countless soundtracks for blockbuster films including “Tomorrow Never Dies,” “Cars,” and many more.
She had a happy childhood in Missouri; her parents always encouraged her musical interests, and she began piano lessons at a young age. As soon as she knew what she wanted to accomplish with her life, she began providing background vocals for well-known acts like Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, and many others. She has a tremendous fan base thanks to the success of her debut album, “Tuesday Night Music Club,” which earned her three Grammy Awards. Her music is well-known for incorporating elements of pop, rock, country, and folk, and she has also dabbled in acting, making guest appearances on shows like “One Tree Hill,” “30 Rock,” “Cougar Town,” etc.
From 1987 through 1989, Crow was a member of the ‘Bad World Tour band, performing as a backup singer and frequently duetting on ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’ with Michael Jackson. She collaborated with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Belinda Carlisle, and many others.
In 1990, she appeared in the drama Cop Rock, directed by Steven Bochco. She also recorded a duet with Kenny Loggins for his album Leap of Faith titled “I Would Do Anything” and sang the song “Heal Someone” from the film “Bright Angel” that same year.
She worked with record producer Hugh Padgham to create a self-titled debut album in 1992, but it was never officially published. Still, the leak of several of her recordings brought her some attention. The song “All I Wanna Do” from Crow’s 1993 debut album, “Tuesday Night Music Club,” became an unexpectedly massive smash. In the United States and the United Kingdom, it sold seven million copies. For it, she was awarded three Grammys.
After winning two Grammys for her debut album, she released her follow-up, simply titled “Sheryl Crow,” in 1996. Some of the album’s songs, including “If It Makes You Happy,” “Home,” and others, became radio staples. A song by Crow named “Tomorrow Never Dies” was featured in the 1997 James Bond film of the same name. This song was an immediate classic, and it was nominated for both the Grammy and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
In 1998, “The Globe Sessions” was released, and it promptly went on to win a Grammy. The album’s songs were said to express her melancholy over her broken relationship with Eric Clapton at the time. Crow made her acting debut in the 1999 suspense film The Minus Man, alongside her then-boyfriend, the famed Hollywood actor Owen Wilson. The album “Sheryl Crow and Friends: Live from Central Park” was also released. The Very Best of Sheryl Crow, a collection of her biggest hits, was released in 2003. The CD collected her most popular songs from her previous albums. She also included the single “Light in Your Eyes” on the album.
In 2004, she was in the Cole Porter film De-Lovely, and in 2005, she released her fifth studio album, Wildflower. It reached #2 on the Billboard charts but was met with lukewarm reviews from music critics. Her 2006 song “Real Gone” from the Disney animated film Cars featured prominently in the film’s soundtrack. The same year she was also told she had breast cancer.
Crow sang “Here Comes the Sun” for the 2007 film “Bee Movie,” and she also wrote a preface for Kris Carr’s book “Crazy Sexy Cancer Advice” that same year. Not only did she sing in the background for Ryan Adams’s “Two,” but she also contributed to the song as a lead vocalist.
Crow’s sixth studio album, titled “Detours,” was recorded on her Tennessee farm and was released in 2008. It entered the Billboard 200 at position #2.
When the US Presidential Elections came around that same year, she voted for Obama. A number one song, “Summer Day,” was featured on her seventh studio album, “100 Miles from Memphis,” which was published in 2010. She also contributed to the CD “Coal Miner’s Daughter: A Tribute to Loretta Lynn” which was released in the same year.
