Sara Bareilles was born on December 7, 1979, in the town of Eureka, California. Her parents, Bonnie Halvorsen, who worked at a funeral home, and Paul Bareilles, who was an insurance adjuster, met while both of them were working at a funeral home. Paul Bareilles was Sara’s father. She was raised in Eureka, California, along with her two sisters, and her half-sister and all three of them went on to become actresses. In addition to being of other nationalities, she is of Italian, English, German, Portuguese, and French descent. She is also of other nationalities.
She developed a deep love for singing at a young age and participated in the choral group known as “Limited Edition” during her senior year of high school. She was a cast member in the musical production of “Little Shop of Horrors” at her high school, in addition to performing in musical shows at the community theatre in the area. Her childhood was a challenging time for her because other children frequently bullied and embarrassed her over her appearance.
She was bullied to such an extreme degree by her classmates that she eventually had no choice but to transfer schools. She graduated with her high school graduation from the ‘University of California, Los Angeles’ in 1998, and then she continued her education thereby majoring in communication studies (UCLA). She participated in the Cappella group known as “Awaken a Cappella” for a while.
The rendition of ‘Gravity’ performed by the group was included on the compilation CD named ‘Best of College a Cappella 2004 Compilation,’ which was released in 2004. Her first performance was at the annual student concert called “UCLA Spring Sing,” which was where she made her debut. After completing her college degree in 2002 at UCLA, she found work in the hospitality industry as a waitress. According to her own statements, Sara Bareilles considers herself to be a feminist. The following is how she articulated her perspective on the matter: “I don’t appreciate seeing great, intellectual women degraded to sex symbols.”
She is a member of the LGBT community herself, in addition to being a supporter of the LGBT community. The first time that Sara and the actor Joe Tippett crossed paths was in 2015 when they were both trying out for the role of “Waitress.” After then, the two started a romantic relationship and made their first appearance together in public at the Tony Awards in Los Angeles in 2017. She had a child with her ex-boyfriend Javier Dunn, with whom she had a relationship in the past. She is the proud owner of a home in the beautiful city of Venice.
In point of fact, she has been quite good about keeping her private life under wraps, and the media has not been given any information whatsoever regarding her romantic relationships. When Sara Bareilles first released her album under her own name, titled Little Voice, in 2007, it gave the impression that she was a product of a different era. She owed a large portion of her success to audaciously melodic songwriting, which she demonstrated in her hit track Love Song.
This song was successful in bringing classic singer/songwriter clichés into the present day while still remaining true to her roots. She owed a large portion of her success to audaciously melodic songwriting. Bareilles was able to establish herself as one of the most successful and long-lasting singers/songwriters of her time thanks to her ability to connect with the past while simultaneously having a clear sense of the present.
She achieved a string of top-ten singles in the late 2000s and early 2010s, including “Love Song,” which reached number four in 2002, “King of Anything,” which reached number 32 in 2010, and “Brave,” which reached number 23 in 2013, before relocating to Broadway, where she composed the songs for the musical adaptation of Adrienne Shelly’s Waitress in 2015. A second home was found in the theatre, which is where Bareilles was nominated for a Tony Award for the score she wrote for the cartoon film SpongeBob SquarePants, which was released in 2016. She then went on to star as Mary Magdalene in the television production of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, which was shown on NBC.
Her performance in that role garnered her two nominations for an Emmy Award. She had already established herself as a prominent figure in the entertainment world by this point, having received a Grammy for her song “Saint Honesty” in 2019 and had her songbook adapted into the television series Little Voice, which will air on Apple TV+ in 2020. In later years, while she was attending UCLA for her studies in Communication Studies, she also taught herself how to play the piano.
There, Bareilles invested the majority of her free time in exploring her new surroundings and writing poetry and songs about the vibrant cityscapes that she had recently discovered. Her first three years after college were spent playing her songs at open-mike events, which helped her progressively build her confidence as a performer. After that, she moved on to performing at smaller clubs and festivals.
Her first demo, Careful Confessions, which she co-produced in 2003 was the moment in which she realized recording was her true calling and became hooked by the recording process. She began shopping her CD around and, eventually, in April of 2005, she signed a contract with Epic Records. She was beyond ecstatic about the possibility of going back into the studio and creating a second full-length album.
She collaborated with producer Eric Rosse for a little over a year to perfect the orchestration of her first major-label release, Careful Confessions, which was released in February of that year. Although nearly half of the songs on the album had previously appeared on the album, a new batch of songs was carefully constructed in order to make her first major-label release as powerful as possible.
