She made her film debut in Chuck, a sports movie, and her television debut in an episode of The Americans from 2013. On April 16, 2002, Sink was born in Brenham, Texas.  Her mother teaches math, while her father is a football coach. She has a younger sister and three elder brothers.  Sink was interested in the performing arts, although her family was more about athletics.  When she was seven years old, she made her acting debut in a Brenham, Texas, performance of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

She subsequently went to an audition for and was offered the main part in a regional production of The Secret Garden. She made the decision to follow her acting career after this event. When she was a teenager, her family relocated to New Jersey in order for her acting career to be supported by the state’s closeness to New York City. During the 2011–2012 season, Sink appeared in plays at Theater Under the Stars in Houston, including musical versions of White Christmas  and the main role in Annie.

She performed Annie and Duffy in the 2012–14 revival of Annie on Broadway. She made her television debut in a 2013 episode of the Emmy Award-winning series The Americans during the Broadway run.  She also appeared in a guest spot in an episode of the Blue Bloods police drama. In 2015, Helen Mirren and Sink costarred in the Broadway production of The Audience as a youthful Queen Elizabeth II, and Sink played Suzanne Ballard in the NBC action-thriller series American Odyssey.

She performed in minor parts on television and in movies, such as that of Kimberly in the 2016 sports drama film Chuck, a guest character in an episode of the comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and young Lori Walls in the historical drama The Glass Castle, while while attending school. Sink was chosen as a series regular in October 2016 after giving an audition for the role of Max Mayfield in the second season of Netflix’s science fiction horror thriller Stranger Things.  Sink’s breakout performance as Max led to the character becoming a favourite of the audience and an essential component of the show. She starred as Ziggy Berman, the lead character, in the critically acclaimed Fear Street Trilogy’s second and third films, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, in 2021.

She earned positive reviews for her portrayal in the former, with Ian FreerSink of Empire praising her as “the stand-out” and Lovia Gyarkye of The Hollywood Reporter saying that she “makes the character her own”. She subsequently starred alongside Dylan O’Brien in Taylor Swift’s 2021 short film All Too Well: The Short Film, for which she won praise from critics. She portrayed Tess DeNunzio, the main character, in the drama Dear Zoe in 2022. The family soon relocated to New Jersey.

To enhance her performance in musicals and Broadway plays, Sink began dance and voice instruction. She debuted on television in the 2013 season of “The Americans.” She was soon chosen to appear in “Blue Bloods,” another television series. She portrayed Suzanne Ballard in the television show “American Odyssey” in 2015. She became famous after appearing in “Stranger Things” as one of the major characters two years later. The Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards presented Sink with the 2018 ‘Award of Excellence’ for narration for her work.Additionally well-regarded was Sink’s portrayal in the fourth season of Stranger Things, notably in the episode “Dear Billy.” She “sinks into her role and ends up delivering the best performance of the gang, especially in the outstanding fourth episode,” according to Saloni Gajjar of The A.V. Club, Valerie Ettenofear of /Film, who also praised her “traumatizingly good performance,” and Daniel D’Addario of Variety, who said she “distinguished herself as a major young performer throughout the season.”
