Rupert Friend was birth on October 9, 1981, and raised in Stonesfield, Oxfordshire. His mother, Caroline, is a solicitor, and his father, Nicholas Friend, is a cultural historian. Rupert is the son of Caroline and Nicholas Friend. He received his education at the prestigious Marlborough School in Woodstock.
He attended the Cherwell School and d’Overbroeck’s College in Oxford to get his Advanced Placement (A-level) degrees. Friend participated at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London for professional acting training. He thought of himself as a late bloomer and shared this story: “I was ready to sail across the globe when I learned I’d gotten into theater school. The other people there had all grown up singing and dancing, but I had the opposite upbringing.
After seeing Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989, he became an archaeologist and explored the globe. However, he ultimately decided against this plan when he discovered that the profession needed to pay better. Instead, he pursued a career in acting, where he was influenced by actors such as Marlon Brando, who was cast as Vito Corleone, and Harrison Ford, who portrayed Indiana Jones.
In the second year of acting school, he performed three tiny parts in the film The Laramie Project. The film’s casting director saw him in those roles, and he subsequently introduced Friend to a more significant role in the movie. In The Weinstein Company’s 2004 film The Libertine, he made his debut as an actor, playing the role of Billy Downs.
He was given the “Outstanding New Talent” award at the 2005 Satellite Awards for this performance. In 2005, he debuted as a leading man in the movie adaptation of Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, playing the part of Ludovic Meyer opposite Joan Plowright. This was his first starring role. He played the role of Wickham in Joe Wright’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which was released in the same year.
The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers was a short film released in 2008 and was written and starred by Friend and Tom Mison, respectively. He began his career in the film industry by establishing his own production business, now known as Beat Pictures. In 2010, he debuted as a filmmaker with the short film Steve, which featured Keira Knightley, Tom Mison, and Colin Firth. In addition to directing the picture, he wrote and produced it; the movie was subsequently featured in the collection Stars in Shorts, released in 2012. On his to-do list is the production of Barton & Charlie & Checco & Bill, in which he will also star.
In addition, he had a role in the movie Chéri, in which he portrayed the main character. In addition, he was a member of the cast of “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” in which he described the role of Lieutenant Kurt Kotler in Nazi Germany. In the drama Young Victoria from 2010, he played Prince Albert, the Consort.
Because of her impressive performance in Pride and Prejudice, Graham King, the producer of Young Victoria, cast Friend as the principal actress in the film. Young Victoria is based on the life of Queen Victoria. His performance was appreciated by several, including the historian Alex von Tunzelmann, who lauded him for the work that took to his become an expert in the character.
In the year 2010, Friend made his debut on stage as Mitchell in the premiere performance of The Little Dog Laughed in the United Kingdom. The cinematic adaptation of Kevin Lewis’s book The Kid, in which he stars, is simply The Kid. Because the movie included boxing, he was required to train himself to get into better physical and mental form. In the French film “Lullaby for Pi,” in which he played the role of a singer named Sam, he was also a cast member. In the movie “5 Days of War,” released in 2011, he portrayed the role of Thomas Anders, the main character.
Debbie McWilliams, the casting director for James Bond films, claimed in an interview that Friend was asked if he would want to be considered for the part of James Bond, but Friend declined the offer. McWilliams was speaking on BBC Radio 4’s The Film Programme. In the film Starred Up, released by Fox Searchlight in 2014, Friend performed the role of Oliver Baumer.
His acting earned him praise from the reviewers and a nomination for the British Independent Film Award (BIFA) for Best Supporting Actor. In the same year, he also appeared in the film To Write Love in Her Arms as David McKenna and had a part in the European movie Meet Me in Montenegro. Both of these films were released in this year. In addition to that, he collaborated with his wife, Aimee Mullins, in the production of the short movie Stryka.
Friend took over for Paul Walker in the role of Agent 47 in the movie adaptation of the Hitman video game series Hitman: Agent 47, released in 2015. It was a requirement of the part that he had all of his hair shaved off. For him to get more acquainted with the Hitman persona, the production team provided him with copies of all of the Hitman video games.
