Bio

Rick Moranis, whose real name is Frederick Allan “Rick” Moranis, is a Canadian film and television actor, as well as a musician who has been nominated for a Grammy. After a difficult period working as a radio disc jockey, he finally tasted success in his entertainment career in the 1980s when he appeared in one of the lead roles in the Canadian sketch comedy series ‘Second City Television.’

This was the first time he had tasted success in his entertainment career. He was one of the “McKenzie Brothers” together with Thomas Dave, and the satirical representation of stereotyped Canadian males that they did made them extremely popular not only with the audience in Canada but also among the audience in the United States. Thomas Dave was also one of the “McKenzie Brothers.”

After this, Rick Moranis started getting more and more opportunities to play lead roles in Hollywood comedy movies, and he made the best use of the chance he got. He made a name for himself as a comedian by working in movies such as “Ghostbusters,” “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” “Flintstones,” “Parenthood,” and so on. In addition to that, he is a voice over artist, and he has lent his voice to a great number of iconic ‘Disney’ characters.

Moranis temporarily retired from the film industry in the late 1990s following the sudden death of his wife. He made a comeback to the industry after a few years, although he only worked intermittently after that. His first appearance on television was in 1976, and he was a regular on the CBC-TV comedy series known as “90 Minutes Live.” However, it wasn’t until 1980 that he rose to fame thanks to the show known as “Second City Television (SCTV).”

The writer and performer of the series itself, as well as his buddy Dave Thomas, were the ones who ultimately persuaded him to participate in the third season of the series. He first gained notoriety for his portrayals of famous people such as Woody Allen and David Brinkley, among others. After achieving notoriety as the “McKenzie” brothers in the 1970s and 1980s with their charming catchphrases and depiction of stereotyped Canadian guys, Rick Moranis and Terry Thomas released a film titled “Strange Brew” in 1983. The film was a comedy.

In the year that followed, Rick Moranis was inundated with offers to perform in feature pictures. During this time, he appeared in the film “The Streets of Fire” with Diane Lane and Michael Pare, in which he had a role that was somewhat more dramatic than the one he had on “SCTV.” Due to the fact that he did not appreciate working on a dramatic film, he reverted to his comedic roots the following year with the release of the film ‘Ghostbusters.’

The film was a huge commercial success, grossing over $200 million in the United States of America alone.
Moranis has been responsible for numerous successful comedies throughout the course of his career, including “Little Shop of Horrors” (1986), “Spaceballs” (1987), “Ghostbusters II” (1987), “Honey I shrunk the Kids” (1989), “Parenthood” (1989), and “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid (1992),” amongst others.

In 1994, Moranis appeared in his last well-known part, which was in the cartoon series ‘The Flintstones.’ Prior to this, he had established a reputation for having impeccable comedic timing and a realistic representation of the characters. His performance as “Barney Rubble” was very well received by the crowds that came to see it.
The year 1996 saw the release of another one of Moranis’ large banner movies titled “Big Bully.”

Steve Miner directed the film, which also featured Tom Arnold and was directed by Miner. The movie could not achieve financial success at the box office despite having a plot line that had a lot of potential. Following the success of his previous work, he resumed his career in 2001 with the release of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys.” It was a Disney animated movie, and he provided his voice for it.

He made use of his talent for singing and in 2005 he published an album with the working title “The Agoraphobic Cowboy.” It was an album that had songs with a country music sound, and Moranis himself penned the words to all of the songs on the album. In 2004, he served on the Humber College Comedy Program Advisory Committee. Humber College offers a comedy program.

He did not come out of retirement to work on the creation of a new video game based on the Ghostbusters movie in 2008, when it was being done in conjunction with the other cast members of the films. Moranis and Dave Thomas first came up with the idea for the characters Bob and Doug McKenzie as a form of dissent against the government’s mandate that domestically produced television programs must have “identifiable Canadian material.”

The sketches, which were broadcast on the SCTV (1988) show “The Great White North,” featured two dimwitted brothers who mixed as many bad clichés about Canadians as they could. Despite this, they grew so successful that the skits were incorporated in the American version of the show, and Moranis and Thomas were named members of the Order of Canada for their contribution to Canadian culture.

In addition, the skits were included in the American version of the program. The role of Louis Tully, which he played in the 1984 film Ghostbusters, was initially intended for John Candy. After Candy decided not to participate, Moranis was a last-minute substitute that was brought in. Moranis, Candy, and Harold Ramis, who also starred in Ghostbusters, are all graduates of SCTV (1976).

Is the only actor to have appeared in all three of the “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” movies, which include Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves!, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid (1992), and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989).
