Bio

Ric Flair, also known by his ring as “The Nature Boy,” is a former professional wrestler most known for his luxurious lifestyle and addiction to both women and drink. He is recognised as one of the best wrestlers of all time and was formerly the face of the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling. Flair, the inaugural World Champion of the WCW, has held the title a record 16 times. His turbulent existence has been marked by difficult ties with his adoptive parents, many wounds, four disintegrating marriages, and the tragic death of a son. He has won countless titles throughout the course of a career spanning more than 40 decades, shattering numerous records and setting new ones. Flair has seen both the greatest and lowest points in a wrestler’s career, but he refuses to “retire” from the sport since he views it as his first passion.

Even after officially retiring from wrestling, he continued to compete for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling  out of pure enthusiasm for the sport. He subsequently said that wrestling for TNA was his “number one” career regret. Nowadays, Flair is often seen in WWE cheering on his daughter Charlotte. Fred Phillips, the son of Luther and Olive Phillips, was born Ric Flair on February 25, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee. Richard Reid Fliehr and Kathleen Virginia Kinsmiller eventually adopted him from the Tennessee Children’s Home Society, and he was given the name Richard Morgan Fliehr. His adopted mother was an actress, and his adoptive father was a doctor.

He subsequently relocated to Edina, Minnesota, where he attended Wayland Academy with his new family. He was a competitive athlete in school, particularly in football, track, and wrestling. Richard Morgan Fliehr participated in the wrestling camp run by Gagne in 1971, which was put up in Gagne’s barn outside of Minneapolis. He had training from Ken Patera, Jim Brunzell, The Iron Sheik, and Greg Gagne, Gagne’s son.

At December 1972, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, he adopted the ring name “Ric Flair” and competed in his debut bout against George “Scrap Iron” Gadaski. The game was drawn after 10 minutes. By yelling “Woooo!” throughout a game, he finally created his own distinctive manner of mocking opponents that became his hallmark. Before surrendering the title to Dusty Rhodes at The Great American Bash on July 26, 1986, Flair held the crown for over two years.

Ric Flair and the tag team of Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson attacked Rhodes at the beginning of 1985. A few weeks later, Tully Blanchard joined them, and the four of them collectively became known as the “Four Horsemen.” This evil coalition was formed in order to overthrow NWA’s fan favourites and win all of the major championships.

The Four Horsemen saw a number of changes as members joined and left the organisation throughout the years. The gang included wrestlers like Lex Luger, Barry Windham, Sting, Sid Vicious, Paul Roma, Brian Pillman, Chris Benoit, Jeff Jarrett, Steve McMichael, Curt Hennig, and Dean Malenko, only had Flair and Arn Anderson as regular members.

Jim Herd, the president of WCW, requested that Ric Flair modify his appearance and use the moniker “Spartacus” at the beginning of 1991. Herd fired Flair and stripped him of the NCW belt when Flair failed to accept the advice. In August 1991, Flair signed up with the World Wrestling Federation. He first made an appearance wearing the “Big Gold Belt” and introduced himself as “The Real World Heavyweight Champion” before taking on WWF superstars like Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan.

On January 19, 1992, Flair defeated 29 other wrestlers in the Royal Rumble match to win his first WWF Championship. On October 12, 1992, Bret Hart defeated him for the belt.Flair returned to WCW in February 1993 as the company’s new face after his brief tenure in WWF. After beating Barry Windham at Beach Blast, he was awarded the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Although WCW departed the NWA in September 1993, he only managed to hold onto the title for a very little time.By beating Sting in June 1994, Flair unify the titles of WCW International World Heavyweight and WCW World Champion.

In 1974, Flair left the AWA and enrolled in the National Wrestling Alliance. On February 8, 1975, he won his first singles championship after defeating Paul Jones to win the NWA Mid-Atlantic TV Championship.Flair, Johnny Valentine “Mr. Wrestling I,” Tim Woods, Bob Bruggers, and promoter David Crockett were on board the aircraft that crashed in Wilmington, North Carolina, on October 4, 1975. The pilot died in the accident, while the others were all seriously wounded. Flair, who was 26 at the time, was told he would never be able to wrestle again after suffering a back injury.

Flair, however, made the decision to persist and underwent extensive physical treatment in order to be able to stand up again. Within a year of the injury, his efforts had paid off and he was back in the ring.In February 1976, he faced Wahoo McDaniel after his comeback. However, the incident forced him to alter his wrestling stance and abandon his power brawling methods.

After beating Bobo Brazil on July 29, 1977, Ric Flair claimed the title of “NWA United States Heavyweight Champion.” Over the next three years, Flair successfully defended the title five times against rivals including Greg Valentine, Jimmy Snuka, Roddy Piper, Mr. Wrestling, Ricky Steamboat, and Mr. Wrestling. He competed against Buddy Rodgers, the first “Nature Boy,” in 1978. Flair began referring to himself as “The Nature Boy” to stoke his rivalry with Rodgers, and the moniker has remained with him ever since.

On September 17, 1981, Flair defeated Dusty Rhodes to claim the title of “NWA World Heavyweight Champion.” With his blonde hair, jewel-encrusted robes, pricey jewellery, and fancy clothes, he rose to fame as the face of NWA. Before beginning his football scholarship at the University of Minnesota, he started wrestling as an amateur. Shortly after finishing his freshman year, he left school. He met Olympic weightlifter Ken Patera while working as a bouncer at a bar, and Patera connected him to American Wrestling Association promoter Verne Gagne. Flair was enrolled in Gagne’s training program after Flair accepted to be under his wing.
