Rhys Ifans is a Welsh actor and singer. His birth name was Rhys Owain Evans, and he was born on July 22, 1967. His name is pronounced. He was the lead singer for the rock bands Peth and Super Furry Animals, both of which were from Wales. As an actor, he is best recognized for his performances in the films Notting Hill, Kevin & Perry Go Large, and Enduring Love. He is also recognized for his roles as Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, the supervillain Dr. Curt Connors / Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home , and Grigori Rasputin in The King’s Man. In addition, he has played the role of Hector DeJean in the drama series Berlin Station on Epix and Mycroft Holmes in the television series Elementary on CBS. Ifans was born Rhys Owain Evans  in Haverfordwest on July 22, 1967.

He is the son of Beti-Wyn, who worked as a nursery school teacher, and Eurwyn Evans, who worked as a primary school teacher.  His younger brother, Llr Ifans, also works in the entertainment industry.  He spent his childhood in Ruthin, where he attended Ysgol Pentrecelyn for his elementary school and was brought up speaking Welsh as his first language. He is fluent in Welsh. He received his O levels and A levels at Ysgol Maes Garmon in Mold, which is a Welsh medium secondary school. While there, he studied the Welsh language. He was a student at Theatr Clwyd’s acting school for a while. After finishing his education, he became a host for television programs broadcast on S4C that were in Welsh.

He attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London for his acting training and graduated from there in the year 1997. Early in his career, Ifans appeared on stage in productions such as Hamlet at Theatr Clwyd, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Regent’s Park Theatre, Under Milk Wood, and Volpone at the National Theatre, and others. In 2003, he was seen in the production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist at the Donmar Warehouse. In 2006, he made his comeback to the stage in London with the production of Don Juan in Soho at the Donmar Warehouse directed by Michael Grandage. In the performance of King Lear directed by Deborah Warner and shown at The Old Vic in 2016, Ifans portrayed the role of Fool with Glenda Jackson.

He went back to The Old Vic in 2017 to play Ebenezer Scrooge in Matthew Warchus’ production of A Christmas Carol, and he went back to The National Theatre in 2018 to play King Berenger in Patrick Marber’s new adaptation of Eugene Ionesco’s Exit the King. Both of these productions were adaptations of Ionesco’s plays. Ifans has been cast as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird, which is scheduled to begin performances at the Gielgud Theatre in London on May 21, 2020. The performance of the play was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will now take place in May 2021. As a result of scheduling issues, Rafe Spall eventually took over the character of Atticus Finch in the film. Before starting a career in cinema, Ifans was a guest star on a number of Welsh-language television shows, such as the sketch comedy program Pobol y Chiff.

He also gave performances at the National Theatre in London and the Royal Exchange in Manchester before moving into the film industry. In 1990, he was the host of the anarchic children’s quiz show known as Sdwnsh . S4C, a television channel that broadcasts in Welsh, aired a total of 31 different shows that each lasted for fifteen minutes. Ifans got international notoriety for his performance as the slovenly flatmate Spike in the British film Notting Hill, which he played following his role as Jeremy Lewis in the Swansea-based movie Twin Town alongside his brother Dr. It has been said that in order to prepare for the role, Ifans did not wash his face or brush his teeth. His character, Xenophillius Lovegood, was the editor of the wizarding journal The Quibbler and the father of Luna Lovegood, who was a peculiar character. Hugo Blick was the writer for this episode. He took on the role of a solitary Welsh farmer who was struggling to break free from the control of his mother. Ifans portrayed the tough-as-nails American CIA case officer Hector DeJean in the espionage thriller drama series Berlin Station, which aired on the Epix network in the United States and was filmed on location in Berlin. Ifans played the role from 2016 to 2019. Ifans has been cast in the upcoming installment of the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, which is set to hit theatres in 2022.
