Rain City Drive is a post-hardcore band from Palm Coast, Florida that hails from the United States. The members of Rain City Drive are as follows: bassist Colin Vieira, guitarist Felipe Sanchez, singer Matt McAndrew, guitarist Wes Richmond, and drummer Zack Baker. Rain City Drive developed from the ashes of the post-hardcore band enslaved people, which was located in Sacramento.
After the band’s main singer, Jonny Craig, left only a few days before a tour of the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia, McAndrew was requested to be a last-minute fill-in for Craig. As a result, McAndrew became an official band member when they started composing together while on the road.
To Better Days, the quintet’s first studio album was the project from these early creative sessions. Before its release on August 7, 2020, the band announced that To Better Days would be their last album performing under the name SLAVES. They also indicated that the record would signal the beginning of a new chapter for the band’s five members. After that, in 2021, it was reissued under the Rain City Drive label.
The band announced that they would be changing their name to Rain City on October 15, 2021, and they also went ahead and signed a contract with the indie record company Thriller Records. This change officially approved Rain City Drive as the street’s name. Rain City Drive and the reconstituted enslaved people, including Jonny Craig, emerged as separate entities in 2022.
On July 15, 2022, they released their [eponymous studio album] under Rain City Drive, a crucial milestone in their career. During the year, they went on tour with Memphis May Fire during the summer, and then they went on tour with Set It Off sometime in the autumn. With the assistance of Dance Gavin Dance, the band embarked on a tour of the United Kingdom in January 2023.
On January 15, we learned about the band members from the Twitter account of the main vocalist, Jonny Craig. Tai Wright, the band’s founding drummer, came up with the name “Slaves,” which he announced via Twitter the next day. Enslaved people was the name of the band. Craig wrote a piece for Ryan’s Rock Show explaining the term Slaves at the time.
Since the beginning of time, when humans have had gods to hide behind, men have been enslaving other men, according to Craig. The things that we love, whether they be women, drugs, music, or sports, make every guy a slave to those things. Through the medium of art, we are all on equal footing. Alternative Press published an article on March 3 indicating that Artery Recordings has just signed Craig’s band Slaves to their label and that they are now a part of their roster since the signing.
In a tweet, Craig announced that his primary record company, Rise Records, would not be involved with the new band that he was forming.
As a direct response to the release of Hands Like Houses, Miss Fortune, and Alive Like Me, the band embarked on their first tour of the United States in May. The tour lasted from May to June. Artery Recordings was the label enslaved people used to release their first song, “The Fire Down Below,” on April 22.
On June 24, 2014, the album “Through Art, We Are All Equals” was published. Kris Crummett was the musician responsible for producing the record. The album includes guest vocals from many artists, including Jonny Craig’s sister, Natalie Craig, Kyle Lucas, Tyler Carter of Issues, and Vic Fuentes of Pierce The Veil. November 2014 saw the publication of the album’s track listing. On the official Billboard 200 charts in the United States, the album debuted at position No. 53.
A sequel to his song “The Upgrade” from his EP “Find What You Love And Let It Kill You,” “The Upgrade Pt. II” was released as the band’s second single on May 13, 2014, and it was streamed on the YouTube channel of Artery Recordings. In the latter part of that month, on May 29, the band released a music video for the third single from the album, titled “Starving for Friends.” The song featured Vic Fuentes, a Pierce the Veil member.
It came to light that enslaved people were taking part in the All Stars Tour as supporters. The first time Jonny Craig participated in the All Stars Tour was with Dance Gavin Dance, which eventually resulted in his being forced out of the band. This is the second time that Jonny Craig has participated in the tour. Jason Mays, the bassist for enslaved people, announced on Facebook on May 30 that he would not be continuing with the band due to circumstances with his family and his health.
Andrew Mena, who had previously been a member of Scarlett O’Hara, replaced the band member temporarily and toured with them for the remaining dates. Alex Lyman successfully persuaded Michael Nordeen, who was working as an operations manager at Artery Recordings, to join the band for a few hours when Andrew Mena returned to his responsibilities as a tour manager. At the beginning of the winter season of 2014, Colin Vieira became a member of enslaved people again.
Enslaved people announced on June 24, 2014, that they would do a headline event in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 9, 2014. In the following days, they announced that they would be going on an international tour to Australia and a headlining tour that would begin on October 7 and include bands such as Nightmares and Myka Relocate, amongst others.
“My Soul Is Empty and Full of White Girls” is the fourth and final single from the album, directed and produced by Jeremy Tremp and Shan Dan. On July 9, the band’s first official music video was uploaded to YouTube via the Artery Recordings platform. Through his Twitter account, guitarist Christopher Kim announced his Febrdeparture.
