Campos-Duffy, Rachel is a conservative American television personality who was born on October 22, 1971. Before transitioning to a career as a television host, she made her first appearance on television in 1994 as a cast member on the MTV reality series The Real World: San Francisco. Before transferring to Fox News, where she has guest-hosted the show Outnumbered, she was a host on the ABC chat shows The View. before becoming a Fox & Friends Weekend permanent co-host in May 2021. Miguel Campos and Maria del Pilar, junior high school teachers in Chandler, Arizona, raised Rachel Campos in Tempe, Arizona. She has two brothers: Joseph Campos and Patrick Campos. In 2012, her sister Leah Campos Schandlbauer, a former CIA operations officer, ran for governor in Arizona. Campos and her siblings were brought up in a devoutly Catholic househo. Campos-Duffy obtained his high school diploma from Seton Catholic Preparatory. The grandparents of Campos arrived in America via Mexico.
Campos earned an economics degree from Arizona State University in December 1993. She received the Woodrow Wilson Graduate Fellowship, which she intended to utilize to pursue her dream of becoming a college professor by enrolling in graduate school. Campos graduated from the University of California, San Diego, with a master’s degree in international relations. Campos was cast in The Real World: San Francisco in January 1994, and from February 12 to June 19 she resided in the Russian Hill house alongside her six housemates.
On July 6, 1994, the season made its debut. Campos-Duffy defended the contentious practice of separating immigrant families apprehended at the US border on June 21, 2018, while appearing on the Fox News show The Ingraham Angle. When referring to the residences for the kids, she said: “I’ll say this: People aren’t stupid. The detention facilities are much safer than the journey that these kids just took. Speaking with other African-Americans, they told me, “Gosh, the jail cells’ conditions are nicer than some of the projects I grew up in.”” The remarks prompted immediate criticism, from individuals such as black Vox reporter Jane Coaston, New York Times Magazine writer Nikole Hannah-Jones, and others. Ava DuVernay, a director, and Essence magazine’s Britni Danielle.
In 2017, Campos-Duffy commended Montana’s Greg Gianforte, a Republican running for congress, for hitting The Guardian writer Ben Jacobs. When Jacobs sought to interview Gianforte about the Republican health care proposal, which Campos-Duffy referred to as “Montana justice,” Gianforte seized him, pushed him to the ground, and punched him. Immediately following Joe Biden’s victory over President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, Campos-Duffy alleged that there had been “fraud and shenanigans” in the vote. Fox & Friends Weekend welcomed Campos-Duffy as a permanent co-host in May 2021.
Campos-Duffy denounced President Joe Biden on August 22, 2021, attributing the Taliban’s retake of Afghanistan to his “mental state.”By enabling her husband to run for president, First Lady Jill Biden, she claimed, abandoned the nation. The following day, Michael LaRosa, Jill Biden’s press secretary, addressed the remarks “saying that ” know better” and labeling her “disgusting.” They are capable of more, and their audience deserves it.
Campos-Duffy claimed on March 14, 2022, that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was sparked by the United States; her co-host, Brian Kilmeade, disagreed cast members were made aware that they would be sharing a house with an HIV-positive person, but they were not told which housemate it would be. On the cast’s first night in the house, Campos’ housemate Pedro Zamora, an HIV educator, revealed to the other residents that he had AIDS by displaying a scrapbook of his professional life. Campos originally kept her distance from Zamora because she didn’t know how his condition would influence her and she felt uneasy. She didn’t speak to the other residents, though, for fear of coming across as homophobic. Although Zamora initially interpreted this as a sign of rejection from her, the two gradually grew close, and Zamora even accompanied Campos to Arizona to see her family.
While she was a cast member, she had a rocky connection and love relationship with David “Puck” Rainey, another housemate. A fellow cast member, Judd Winick, attributed her attraction to her preference for “bad boys,” or rebellious guys. This was acknowledged by Campos who also acknowledged that she occasionally made poor character judgments and exhibited excessive trust. Campos and Rainey’s friendship eventually ended, as did Rainey’s bond with the other cast members, leading to Campos’ eviction. Winick referred to Campos and Joanna Rhodes, Rainey’s replacement, as “high maintenance twins” when the two of them became close friends.
Campos was portrayed as an ardent Republican on the show and in MTV’s promotional materials for the show, whose heroes included Jack Kemp,[22] and as a Catholic, though she acknowledged that her strict religious upbringing had bred a rebellious streak in her that occasionally caused her to clash with her parents. Her political beliefs caused her and her housemates to argue on more than one occasion, such as when Mohammed Bilal mocked her ideas for Republican housing in Episode 3. After Campos invited her housemates to a College Republicans event in Episode 18, self-described liberal Winick claimed that the speakers at the event were sexist, homophobic, and racist.
Campos disagreed with Winick’s assessment, claiming it was unfair. Along with former cast members of prior Real World seasons, including Sean Duffy from Real World: Boston, who she would later marry, Campos, taped Road Rules: All Stars in 1998. One of ten Real World alums who appeared in the 2003 movie The Wedding Video, a parody of The Real World that focused on first-season alum Norman Korpi’s wedding, was Campos-Duffy.
