Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to a Korean mother and a Russian-French father named Alexis Klementieff, who was serving as the French government’s consul there. Klementieff lived in a tent while shooting there, miles away from the closest hamlet and when nighttime lows were far below zero. She made friends with the local nomads during shooting, worked with genuine wolves, rode reindeer, and went for a swim with a horse in a lake.
Since Klementieff’s mother suffered from schizophrenia and was unable to care for her children when she was five years old due to her father’s cancer, she was raised by her paternal uncle and aunt.
On her 18th birthday, her uncle, whom she referred to as “like a second father,” passed away. Seven years later, on her 25th birthday, Namou, her elder brother, committed himself. After her uncle passed away, Klementieff temporarily enrolled in law school to please her aunt, but she did not find the field interesting. In France, she also had jobs as a salesperson and waiter. At the Cours Florent theatre school in Paris, she began acting when she was 19 years old. After just a few months of school, she won a theatre competition and received two years of free instruction from the best instructors at the institution.
