Phillip Bryan Schofield was born to parents Brian and Pat Schofield on April 1, 1962, in Oldham, Lancashire. He spent his childhood in Newquay, Cornwall. Both “Trenance Infant School” and “Newquay Tretherras School” are on his resume. When Phillip was 15 years old, he hosted his first radio show, a Sunday program broadcast from a hospital radio station in Plymouth, UK. Phillip received a response to his correspondence with “BBC” when he was 17 years old. At the beginning of his career, he was a clerk and tea boy at London’s Broadcasting House, home of BBC Radio. Philip was hired by BBC Radio as its youngest-ever employee. His first professional gig came about two years after he and his family relocated to New Zealand.
Presenter Phillip Schofield is a household name in the United Kingdom thanks to his many years working for the commercial-free ITV network. But he got his start in the industry at the “BBC” channel and radio station. A contract with ‘ITV’ was later secured for him. Before joining ITV full-time, Philip presented numerous shows for both networks. His final show for the BBC was “Test the Nation,” and he went on to spend the rest of his career with ITV. His most notable “ITV” appearance was in 2002 and continues to the present day on “This Morning,” which he co-hosts with Holly Willoughby.
The show brought Philip into a controversy, and he wound up compensating a British lawmaker for his trouble with a substantial sum. Phillip has also hosted “Dancing on Ice,” “All-Star Mr. & Mrs.,” “The Cube,” and “5 Gold Rings,” all for “ITV.” Phillip, a passionate advocate for LGBT rights and marriage equality, is also a wine connoisseur. He has two daughters with his wife, a former TV production assistant.
On February 23, 1982, Phillip made his professional debut as the host of Shazam!, a New Zealand youth music television program. After two years at Radio Hauraki, he moved on to another radio job in Auckland. Phillip returned to the United Kingdom in 1985 and became the first ever in-vision continuity presenter for the show “Broom Cupboard” on “Children’s BBC.” Beginning in April of 1991, he hosted the Saturday morning magazine show “Going Live!” on BBC1. He promoted BBC Radio 1’s shift from medium wave to full usage of FM stereo in 1988 while hosting the show of the same name on BBC Radio 1.
Phillip presented the annual “Smash Hits Poll Winners Party” award event for the popular music magazine from 1988 to 1991. At about the same time, he began focusing on more mature content for ‘ITV.’ Afterward, Phillip hosted programs like “Schofield’s Quest,” “Schofield’s TV Gold,” and “Ten Ball.” In 1991, Phillip made his theatrical debut as ‘Joseph’ in a production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.’ He covered the song “Shut Every Door” for the musical, and in December 1992, “Polydor Records” released it as a single.
After taking some time off, Philip returned to hosting in 1994, when he hosted the ITV game program Talking Telephone Numbers until 1997. In 1996, he presented a game show called “One in a Million,” which later became the basis for a book he co-wrote. The musical “Doctor Dolittle,” which premiered at London’s “Hammersmith Apollo,” starred Phillip as the title character shortly thereafter. He toured the United Kingdom with the production in 1998–1999.
Phillip hosted a number of series for BBC in the following decade, including the lottery show “National Lottery Winning Lines” and the quiz show “Test the Nation”. Meanwhile, Philip has been a co-host on the popular morning show “This Morning” on ITV since 2002. Phillip’s relationship with “Test the Nation” terminated in July 2006 as he secured a two-year exclusive contract with “ITV.” After his father passed away in May of 2008, Phillip took some time off from ‘This Morning,’ and John Barrowman filled in for him.
Phillip was a co-host of the ‘ITV’ reality show ‘Dancing on Ice’ from 2006 till 2014. In 2018, once production had begun, he went back to his co-hosting role. In addition to co-hosting “A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards” with Amanda Holden until 2014, Philip presented the prime-time game show “The Cube” from 2009 to 2015. Phillip started a radio station in Plymouth, Devon, in February 2010. From its premiere in April 2008 until its cancellation in 2010, Phillip and Fern Britton co-hosted the “ITV” game program “All Star Mr & Mrs.” Yet when it returned in 2012, he took on hosting duties all by himself.
Phillip hosted or co-hosted a number of shows and events for ‘ITV’ between 2010 and 2015, including ‘The Comedy Annual’ (until 2011), coverage of the ‘Royal Wedding,’ and ‘The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.’ The “Plymouth University Honorary Doctorate” was awarded to Philip in 2011. He had a small role in the British comedy film “Keith Lemon: The Film,” released in 2012. Phillip has been contributing to the ‘Waitrose & Partners weekend journal since 2013. Because of his expertise and enthusiasm, he was chosen to represent Waitrose’s wine selection.
Phillip was the voiceover talent for the March 2014 episode of “Educating Joey Essex” on “ITV2.” He hosted a charity event for the Christmas charity project “Text Santa” towards the end of the year. Phillip participated in the event as a guest panelist on the show “Loose Ladies.”
Phillip and his wife’s exciting trip to South Africa were featured on a primetime episode of “ITV” in 2016. The short video series, titled “Schofield’s South African Journey,” was made for “This Morning.” Phillip has been hosting the ITV game show 5 Gold Rings since March 2017.
Phillip is the proud owner of the wine-focused Twitter account @SchofeOnWine. His next foray into the realm of social media was the introduction of a photo-messaging service on “Snapchat” in late 2016, an action that would later see him immortalized as a memetic figure. The series went on to influence a cultural phenomenon that spread throughout social media and was dubbed the “Schofwave.”
His Snapchat handle, Phillip Schofield, was recognized as having the year’s best tale. After interviewing then-prime minister David Cameron for a November 2012 episode of “This Morning,” Phillip found himself at the center of a massive controversy. He sent David a list of five men who had been accused of child sexual assault following the scandal in North Wales. Some prominent “Conservative” politicians from the past have made the list.
