He was 64 years old in 2018 when we last saw him on the show. At Maple Hill Manor in Washington County, Kentucky, on the farm of his grandfather, Phil Simms, he was born. While he was still in elementary school, his family moved to Louisville, Kentucky.

He was an All-Pro quarterback for the New York Giants, who won two Super Bowls. He completed 22 of 25 passes in the Super Bowl XXI victory over the Denver Broncos, a score of 39-20. As a result of the Giants’ first Super Bowl victory, quarterback Phil Simms was awarded the game’s most valuable player. In 1990, the New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl for the second time, improving their record to 20-19.

In addition to his two Super Bowl titles with the New York Giants, Simms was also an All-Pro quarterback throughout his playing career. When the Giants drafted him in the first round of the 1979 NFL draught, he went on to have one of the greatest careers in the league’s history. With 22 of 25 passes completed (88 percent) in a 39–20 win over the Denver Broncos, he was named Most Valuable Player in the XXI Super Bowl. In 1985 and 1993, Simms was selected to the Pro Bowl because of his exceptional performance.
After retiring as a quarterback with 33,462 passing yards, Simms went on to become an NFL analyst for ESPN, then a colour commentator for NBC, and now a CBS analyst.
Ultimately, Simms chose the Division II Morehead State University in nearby Morehead, which is part of the Ohio Valley Conference and where he pledged the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
For the ball-control offence of the Morehead State Eagles, Simms completed 92 of 173 passes, a completion percentage of 53.2%, with six touchdown passes, 11 interceptions, and 1,229 yards.
To prepare for the 1979 NFL Draft, Bill Walsh and Sam Wyche flew to Morehead State ahead of time to work out Simms. Bill Walsh was so taken by Simms that he wanted to select him in the third round over Notre Dame’s Joe Montana. Simms was widely expected to be overlooked by the New York Giants, who instead selected him seventh in the first round.
