Pentatonix often abbreviated as PTX is a five-member American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of Scott Hoying, Kirsty Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. Avi Kaplan used to be a member of the group. Their worPentatonix began as “The Trio,” Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, and Mitch Grassi. The three met at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, where they were members of choirs and drama groups.
They originally composed a trio version of Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s Telephone for a radio competition to meet the cast of Glee. They didn’t win, but it sparked interest at their school and even on YouTube, where they continued arranging songs on Scott Hoying’s channel. Hoying decided to audition for the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, a televised a capella singing competition, in 2011.
