Paul Fusco Bio

Paul Fusco was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in the United States of America on January 29, 1953.Paul Fusco is a puppeteer, actor, television producer, writer, and director who hails from the United States. He is most well-known for his work as the puppeteer and voice of the title character on the television sitcom ALF, which he also created, wrote for, produced, and directed.

Together with Tom Patchett and Bernie Brillstein, he established the production firm known as Alien Productions. His most notable credits were ALF (1986), Project: ALF (1996), and Disaster Movie (2008), all of which he acted in and produced. Since the 13th of October in 1978, he has been happily married to Linda Fusco. They only have one child together.

In 1984, Fusco invented the character of ALF by making use of a puppet that resembled a “alien” and which he kept in his home. Fusco utilized this puppet to upset his family and friends. It was his dream to turn the figure into the star of his own television show. It was through Bernie Brillstein that he was introduced to Tom Patchett, and the two of them collaborated on the idea that would become the ALF show.

They presented the concept to Brandon Tartikoff at NBC, who was enthusiastic about it and ultimately decided to commission the show. The first episode of ALF aired in 1986, and the show ran for a total of four seasons and 99 episodes before it was cancelled in 1992. ALF: The Animated shows and ALF Tales are two animated shows that Fusco conceived and produced for NBC. Both of these series star the animated version of ALF.

The animated shorts were a collaborative effort between DIC, Alien Productions, Lorimar-Telepictures, and Saban Entertainment. They followed Gordon Shumway (ALF) and his family as they lived on Melmac in the days leading up to the planet’s destruction. The live-action ALF served as the host for the animated parts, during which he read letters sent in by fans and shared anecdotes about life in the real world. Another show that combined live-action puppetry with animation was Space Cats, which was broadcast on NBC in the early 1990s and was produced by Paul Fusco in partnership with Marvel Productions.

Like Space Cats, this show was a hybrid of the two forms of media. The live-action puppetry segment would begin each episode, and then Captain Catgut, the head of the Spacecats (Fusco provided his voice for the character), would receive a mission briefing regarding the difficulty of the situation. because airing for just one season and producing thirteen episodes, Space Cats was canceled by NBC because the network decided to pull out of its commitment to Saturday morning cartoons.

ALF was abruptly canceled by NBC in the year 1990, after production had finished for the fourth season. This left the series’ finale, titled “Consider Me Gone,” as an unsolved cliffhanger. ABC provided Fusco with a satisfying conclusion to the plot arc and, in 1996, created a television movie titled Project ALF, which starred Martin Sheen and other cast members. The movie, which was produced by Paul Fusco Productions, had ALF fleeing from the military base where he had been imprisoned for testing; however, the scientist who he believes will aid him is actually planning to expose his existence to the world on a television talk show.

After the completion of Project ALF, Fusco did all in his power to keep ALF in the public spotlight. ALF appeared as a guest on a number of different television shows between the years 1996 and 2001, some of which include The Cindy Margolis Show, Talk Soup, and Love Boat: The Next Wave. ALF was featured on NBC’s 75th Anniversary Show as well as the 2003 TV Land Awards thanks to Fusco, who carried on the trend.

In the 2003–2004 season, he not only brought back his guest slot on Hollywood Squares but also took on the role of “spokesalien” for the phone firm 10-10-220. ALF posters, figurines, and products such as t-shirts and sweatshirts have also been brought back. As a result of the distributor Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s insistence on utilizing syndicated/edited versions rather than remastering the original uncut NBC-TV broadcast versions, the original sitcom’s U.S.-Canadian DVD release received a lot of negative feedback from critics and fans, which led to poor sales. As a result, the DVD release received a lot of negative feedback.

The German DVD version had uncut episodes for 96 of the 99 total entries, leaving only three incomplete. The resurrection of ALF ultimately resulted in Fusco creating and producing ALF’s Hit Talk Show for TV Land in the year 2004. The show consisted of celebrity interviews and comedic skits that were taped in front of a live audience on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. It only lasted for a total of eight episodes.

ALF was featured in an episode of The O’Reilly Factor titled “TV Icon of the Week” in November of 2007. In 2016, ALF made guest appearances on one episode of each of two distinct television series, Mr. Robot and Young Sheldon. In August of 2012, Fusco stated that Sony Pictures Animation had purchased the rights to ALF and that the company intended to develop the IP into a CGI-live action hybrid feature film. Alongside Tom Patchett and Fusco, The Smurfs producer Jordan Kerner would also be involved in the film’s production as a producer. Paul Fusco, his wife Linda, and their son Christopher all reside in the same house.
