American actor, singer-songwriter, and writer Olivia Olson was born on May 21, 1992. She is most recognized for her voice parts as Vanessa Doofenshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb and Marceline the Vampire Queen in Adventure Time. Olson is also a published author. She also portrayed the role of Joanna in the film Love, which was released in 2003, as well as in the short film Red Nose Day Actually, which was released in 2017.
In addition to this, she is also a writer. She is the author of the comic novel Marcy and Simon, which was published by Boom! Studios. She is also a co-author of Adventure Time: The Enchiridion and Marcy’s Super-Secret Scrapbook, and she contributed writing to the Adventure Time Encyclopedia, which was a best-seller for Cartoon Network. It was in the year 2023 that she started contributing to the Phineas and Ferb revival.
While performing the song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in the 2003 holiday blockbuster Love Actually, Olson made her debut in the mainstream with her portrayal as Joanna Anderson. The director of Love, Richard Curtis, said in the commentary part of the music section of the Love DVD that Olson’s singing couldn’t have been more wonderful. Her vocals received accolades.
They were worried that the audience would come to the conclusion that she was lip-syncing since they would not believe that a child of 10 years old could truly sing in the manner that she did. They had to undergo training to make her singing seem more convincing, and they also had to include the sounds of inhalations into the mix.
This resulted in appearances as a guest on The Ellen Show and The Tracy Morgan Show, as well as performing with celebrities such as Jack Black and Kristin Chenoweth. In addition, Olson uploaded their original songs on her YouTube channel. During the year 2017, Olson played the part of Joanna once again in the short film Red Nose Day Actually, which is a continuation of the Love Actually film series.
Olson provided the voice for the recurrent character Vanessa Doofenshmirtz in the Disney animated series Phineas and Ferb from 2008 to 2015. She did it in collaboration with actor Thomas Sangster (Ferb Fletcher), who portrayed Joanna’s love interest Sam in Love. Olson said that she and Sangster had a conversation “about the whole Ferb-Vanessa situation because it’s pretty funny at the moment.”
The duet “Busted!” that she performs with Ashley Tisdale is one of the many songs that she sings in Phineas and Ferb. She also sings several popular solo songs, such as “I’m Me,” “Not So Bad a Dad,” “I’m Lindana and I Wanna Have Fun,” “Happy New Year,” and many others. Her song “Got That Christmas Feeling” was featured in the Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation special.
When Olson’s father was writing “over 200 songs for the series” and other episodes, she composed songs for Phineas and Ferb. Additionally, she has written and recorded her songs with well-known music producers such as Rick Nowels, Camara Kambon, and Rob Mullins, who had significant success in the Hollywood jazz scene.
Olson provided the voice of Vanessa in a sequence that was cut from Phineas and Ferb in the Movie: Across the Second Dimension in 2011. The part had a musical number, but Olson recorded a song for the film “I Walk Away” instead. After gaining experience in the part of Vanessa, she went on to play Marceline, the Vampire Queen, in Adventure Time.
During the development of the program, the show’s creator, Pendleton Ward, reached out to Olson’s father, Martin Olson, who was writing for Phineas and Ferb at the time and inquired as to whether or not he was aware of who portrayed Vanessa in the show. It was not until later that he became aware of the fact that Martin was Olson’s father.
The year 2010 saw Olson’s debut in the character of Marceline, the Vampire Queen, in the animated series Adventure Time, which airs on Cartoon Network. Olson said that she was fascinated by the fashion design of her role as well as the costume for Marceline. She also mentioned that she sometimes enjoyed the distinctive outfits shown in episodes for the character.
When Olson was trying out for the job, he first read for the character of Princess Bubblegum, but he then read for the character of Marceline. According to reports, while she was going into character for the job, she often dressed in a manner that was comparable to Marceline when she was recording her lines. During the drama, her father portrayed the role of Hunson Abadeer, Marceline’s father.
Olson also performs Marceline’s songs in the anime. These songs were most likely composed by storyboard artists or other individuals associated with the production. As a result, Marceline was lauded as a character by The Guardian, which made the specific observation that “she is… responsible for some of the show’s best songs.”
In addition to receiving great critical attention from fans and reviewers alike, her character also garnered positive notice from the production staff of Adventure Time. The series was a financial and popular success. The business that owns Adventure Time acknowledged this popularity by referring to Marceline as a “fan-favorite” in the official press release for the Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens companion comic book. This highlights the fact that Marceline is a fan favorite.
About “what a female character in a television series brings to the table,” Olson subsequently said that she was “honored” to be providing the voice for a character in a program that was stretching the boundaries of imagination. Olson also performed the song “Haven’t You Noticed (I’m a Star),” which was included on the episode of Steven Universe that aired on September 17, 2015, and was titled “Sadie’s Song.”
