Mitchell John McClenaghan is a former New Zealand international cricketer who played for the national side in both Twenty20 Internationals and One Day Internationals. He was born on June 11, 1986, and his birth date is June 11. Over in New Zealand, he was a left-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Central Districts, Auckland, and Otago.
McClenaghan made his debut for New Zealand in a Twenty20 International match against South Africa on December 21, 2012, during the tour of South Africa that New Zealand was conducting. Throughout the same encounter, he concluded with the number of 1/20 from his three overs, and he grabbed his first wicket in a Twenty20 International against South Africa’s opener Richard Levi. In his first Twenty20 International series, he participated in all three matches of the series and grabbed a total of four wickets at the end of the series.
In the same tour, McClenaghan made his first appearance in a one-day international on January 19, 2013, against South Africa. He concluded the encounter with the greatest bowling numbers by a New Zealand rookie, with four wickets and twenty runs from his 10 overs. He became just the second New Zealander, after Dayle Hadlee, to take four wickets in his first one-day international.
As a result of his participation in all three one-day internationals in the series, he finished with a total of six wickets, making him the equal-best wicket-taker for New Zealand in that one-day international series. Kane Williamson, who also got six wickets in the series, joined him in this accomplishment.McClenaghan was selected to be a part of New Zealand’s 15-man One-Day International team for the 2013 Champions Trophy in May of 2013.
He participated in all three of New Zealand’s matches throughout the event and ended up taking a total of 11 wickets, with his best bowling stats being 4-43. He finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker, behind Ravindra Jadeja, who took 12 wickets during the tournament.
McClenaghan became the quickest New Zealander and tied for the second fastest of all time to achieve 50 wickets in one-day internationals (ODIs) in terms of matches on October 24, 2014, when he competed against South Africa in the second one-day international. With the wicket of Quinton de Kock, he accomplished the record in his 23rd one-day international match playing.
McClenaghan was selected to be a member of New Zealand’s one-day international team for the 2015 Cricket World Cup in January of the same year. Nevertheless, during New Zealand’s charge to the final, he was only able to play one match due to the depth of the pace resources available to New Zealand. On March 13, 2015, he participated in his one and only World Cup match, which was against Bangladesh. In the match, he played eight overs and collected statistics of 0-68.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) selected McClenaghan to be a member of their World XI team in May 2018, so that they could compete against the West Indies in a one-off Twenty20 International match at Lord’s. The Twenty20 International had international status from the International Cricket Council (ICC), and it was played to generate money for two stadiums in the Caribbean that were devastated by two storms in September 2017. The tournament was called the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge.
During the match, McClenaghan participated and concluded with the figures of 0-31 from his three overs spent. For McClenaghan, this was the last international match he had ever played in any capacity. In 2009, McClenaghan collected five wickets and thirty-six runs for New Zealand Emerging Players against the England Lions in a match that was not a first-class match.
With the announcement that McClenaghan will be joining Lancashire as a foreign player for their Friends Life Twenty20 campaign, which took place on June 14, 2013, the news was made public. After his first home encounter at Old Trafford, which was played against Nottinghamshire, he was given the Player of the Encounter award for taking five wickets while only allowing 29 runs to escape.
Middlesex announced on May 19, 2015, that McClenaghan will be joining them as an overseas player for their remaining six Twenty20 Blast group matches. McClenaghan would take over for South African Kyle Abbott beginning at the end of June 2015. The first time he played was on July 2, 2015, when he faced Sussex at Lord’s. He went on to take eight wickets in four matches, including a 3/24 in his first appearance.
McClenaghan made his debut in the Indian Premier League in 2015 when he was purchased by Mumbai Indians. In his ten games, he bowled 14 wickets at an average of 22.50 runs per wicket, and he took 14 wickets. In both the 2016 and 2017 installments of the series, he provided his services. The Mumbai Indians chose McClenaghan as a substitute for the injured Jason Behrendorff after the auction in 2018 did not result in any sales of the player.
Not only has the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) assisted in the production of a large number of young talents, but it has also resulted in the emergence of some notable cricketing minds who are considered to be capable of taking on the leadership responsibilities for India in both shorter and longer formats of the game in the future.
