Matt Besser Bio

Matt Besser was born on 22 September 1967. Matthew Gregory Besser is a well-known figure in the American entertainment industry, having worked as an actor, comedian, director, producer, and writer. His role as one of the four original members of the Upright Citizens Brigade sketch comedy ensemble is the primary reason for his widespread recognition. From 1998 to 2000, the Upright Citizens Brigade starred in its very own show that aired on Comedy Central. On September 22nd, 1967, Besser entered the world. At the moment, he is serving as the host of an improvised podcast called Improv4humans, which is broadcast on the Earwolf podcasting network. Besser spent her entire childhood in the Little Rock neighborhood of Arkansas, where she was born. Diane and Sandy Beser, who are his parents, are the ones who are responsible for his upbringing.

His background was highly unique due to the fact that his Jewish father and Christian mother raised him. Besser is not a religious person. His German and French origins both come from his mother’s side of the family, each contributing a quarter of his total heritage. Besser’s grandfather was related to Joe Beser, one of the members of The Three Stooges, through his own father. After becoming a starter for his high school team, college teams asked him about playing soccer for them; however, he elected to attend Amherst College instead and concentrate on American Studies. He was recruited by college teams about playing soccer for them. There, he began his career as a stand-up comedian, and he later entered a contest at the University of Massachusetts that was presided over by Judd Apatow.

After receiving his diploma, he traveled to Denver for a brief period of time in an effort to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. However, he quickly moved to Chicago in order to further his career. Throughout the course of his life, he worked a variety of odd jobs, some of which include stints as a substitute teacher, a host at Carnegie Deli, and a host at Dick’s Last Resort. After seeing an improvised comedy show at the iO Theater that featured Dave Koechner, Tim Meadows, and Chris Farley, Besser decided to enroll in some workshops there. Victim’s Family was an improv group that Del Close directed. Other members of the group included Rick Roman, Adam McKay, Miles Stroth, and Ian Roberts. Del Close’s first experience working with a long-form ensemble came in the form of Victim’s Family, which was eventually renamed The Family and featured Neil Flynn and Ali Farahnakian in place of Roman.

Besser has appeared in cameo roles in a variety of films, some of which are listed below: Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Martin & Orloff, Year One, Undead or Alive, Drillbit Taylor, and Junebug. In addition to that, he has had guest appearances on a number of television sitcoms, including Reno 911!, How I Met Your Mother, New Girl, and Community, the latter of which featured him in a co-starring role alongside his wife, Danielle Schneider. In 2003, the Upright Citizens Brigade debuted the world’s first improvised full-length motion picture under the title Wild Girls Gone. Beginning in 2010, the film was presented for the first time at a number of independent theaters located in the Los Angeles area. The movie can now be purchased as a digital download on iTunes and as a DVD on the website of the official UCB Theater.

In addition, the band performed their one-of-a-kind brand of long-form improv which is referred to as ASSSSCAT during a program that was broadcast on the Bravo channel in the year 2005. Shout! The factory was the distributor of their DVD, which was released in 2008 and named ASSSSCAT!: Renegade Improv Comedy. The improv comedy performance shown on the DVD is uncensored and features not just the company but also some special guests. In addition to other things, the DVD has bonus features that were not included in the final version of the film as well as sequences that were omitted entirely.

Besser is a founding member of the improvisational comedy troupe known as the Upright Citizens Brigade, which was founded in Chicago in the year 1990. Ian Roberts, Ali Farahnakian, Adam McKay, and Rick Roman were the original members of the band and helped found it. Horatio Sanz was another founding member of the group. During the 1993 season of R. O’Donnell’s production of The New Variety at the Chicago Improv comedy club, UCB was a regular presence as a guest performer on the stage. O’Donnell also hosted this show. Besser was selected to appear in the New Year’s Eve special titled “Twisted,” which was directed by O’Donnell and shown in Chicago on WFLD Fox 32 TV. During the time that Besser was performing at the New Variety, the casting took place.

Besser also appeared, alongside comic Michelle Garb, in a number of improvised commercials for McDonald’s, Toyota, and Ameritech that were directed by O’Donnell and featured in the film Twisted. O’Donnell was the director of these ads, and the film Twisted was featured. In the year 1996, the UCB relocated its operations to its current site in New York City. A total of three seasons of their sketch comedy series titled “Upright Citizens Brigade” were aired on Comedy Central between the years 1998 and 2000. Actors Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh were a part of the production as participants. Del Close provided the voice-over performance when it was first made available.

Following the cancellation of the show, Comedy Central made all three seasons of the show available in home video format. Besser and the other members of the UCB later created comedy theaters in New York City and Los Angeles after moving on to other projects. After that, Besser went on to become the creator of the MTV hidden camera prank show Stung, which stars Redman and Method Man, and he also became a co-star on the show. In 2004, he produced and performed in a parody of news debate shows called Crossbills for Comedy Central. The show was called Crossbills. The show paired phony experts, which were portrayed by comedians like Besser and others, against real life contestants.
