Mark Linn-Baker Bio

Mark Linn-Baker is a well-known American actor and director. He is best known for his roles as Benjy Stone in the movie My Favorite Year and Larry Appleton in the television sitcom Perfect Strangers. Linn-Baker was born on June 17, 1954. In St. Louis, Missouri, Mark Linn-Baker was given birth with the names Mark Linn and Baker as his surname at the time of his birth. Later on, he decided to make his surname more unique by creating a compound surname by combining his middle name, Linn, with his last name, Baker.

This resulted in the name Linn-Baker. Both of his parents were involved in the performing arts; his mother, Joan (née Sparks), was a dancer, and his father, William Nelson Baker, was a co-founder of the Open Stage Theater in Hartford. Both of his parents were involved in the performing arts and the fight for civil rights during his childhood. In 1972, he received his diploma from Wethersfield High School in Wethersfield, Connecticut, and in 1976, he received his diploma from Yale University. After that, he went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in Drama from the Yale School of Drama in 1979, and after that, he found the majority of his early parts on stage.

In the early 1980s, he collaborated with Lewis Black on the creation of a two-man comic piece called The Laundry Hour, which they both appeared in. In the 1983 adaptation of the Doonesbury comic strip that was performed on Broadway, he had a role. In 1993, he was in the play Laughter on the 23rd Floor; in 1996, he was in the revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum; in 1998, he was in the Roundabout Theatre Company production of A Flea in Her Ear; in 2003, he was in the musical A Year with Frog and Toad; and in 2006, he was in the comedy Losing Louie.

His first appearance in a film was a bit part in Woody Allen’s Manhattan, which was released in 1979. The majority of Linn-Baker’s scenes were eliminated from the final version of the movie. Three years later, in 1982, he earned a much more famous film role, playing Benjy Stone in the comedy film My Favorite Year starring Peter O’Toole. This performance was in part inspired by Woody Allen, who directed the film. Linn-Baker portrayed the straight guy to O’Toole’s outlandish character, Alan Swann, in a part that was similar to the one he would play in the future in the film Perfect Strangers.

After achieving success on both the stage and the big screen, Linn-Baker started to concentrate his efforts on the television industry. In 1983, he had a role in the pilot episode of a detective show named O’Malley, but the production was never picked up. The year after that, he had a part in the television movie The Ghost Writer as well as in the summer series The Comedy Zone. Soon after, Linn-Baker started making appearances on a number of prestigious television shows. He appeared as Bonzo Barry in an episode of Miami Vice in 1984, and in the episode of Moonlighting titled “Atlas Belched” from 1985, he played the role of Phil West, an unlucky office worker.

Charles Kimbrough and Linn-Baker starred together in the sitcom pilot The Recovery Room, which was produced by CBS in 1985. The Recovery Room was a comedy about a pub that was located directly across from a big city hospital and the people who worked there. The pilot episode was aired over that summer as a special, but it did not result in the creation of a regular series. During this time, Linn-Baker also appeared in television advertisements hawking items ranging from Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain to Kraft’s Life Savers. Her appearances in these ads were sandwiched in between her roles in other films.

In the television show Perfect Strangers on ABC, Linn-Baker played the role of Larry Appleton, a young guy who was experiencing his first year of independent living in Chicago. The world of Larry was turned upside down when a distant cousin named Balki Bartokomous, played by Bronson Pinchot, showed up on his doorstep. Balki came from the made-up island of Mypos in the Mediterranean. Even though the neurotic Larry regularly demonstrated to be just as naive as Balki, the storylines centered on Larry’s attempts to explain Balki the ways of American culture. The show aired for a total of eight seasons. After that, he had a role in the 1992 film Noises Off, which was directed by Peter Bogdanovich.

Twins, a sitcom that aired on the WB Network in 2005 and lasted only one season before being canceled, featured him as a regular cast member. In the film How Do You Know, released in 2010, he played the role of Ron. In 2011, he appeared in his sixth Broadway show, which was a one-act play written by Woody Allen called “Relatively Speaking.” A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was one of his prior roles, in which he co-starred opposite Nathan Lane. In 2016, he made his off-Broadway debut at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in the role of Sir Peter Teazle in the production of The School for Scandal.

On the CBS police procedural show Blue Bloods, which began airing in 2017, he is now playing the part of Carlton Miller, an adviser to Mayor Margaret Dutton (Lorraine Bracco).Linn-Baker portrayed the role of Dick Donaldson, the affluent and snobbish cousin of Becky Donaldson Katsopolis (Lori Loughlin), in an episode of Full House that aired in the year 1992. In the 1997 season of Family Matters, he appeared as a guest star playing the role of Harriette Winslow’s (Jo Marie Payton) abusive boss. As Larry Weeks, Linn-Baker appeared as a guest on three different episodes of Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.

In addition, he had a role in an episode of Law & Order in which he played the proprietor of a strip joint who was the target of extortion by the Mafia. In an episode of Sesame Street that aired in 1997, he had a guest role as a veterinarian who was diagnosing a sick Barkley, who was invisible.Additionally, Linn-Baker directed a number of episodes for the television shows Family Matters, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, Step By Step, and The Trouble with Larry. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was featured in a number of ads for Peter Pan peanut butter as the brand’s official ambassador.

In another episode of Ally McBeal, he played the role of a man who was let go from his job after reporting seeing a unicorn. He appeared as a special guest on an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent from 2003 in which he played the role of Wally Stevens, an insurance investigator who had significant characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome. Det. Robert Goren shows him some empathy, but Det.

Goren’s partner, Alexandra Eames, laughs at him behind his back several times. In the episode “Endgame” from season 6, it was revealed that Goren had maintained in touch with the character through correspondence. His character made a cameo appearance during this episode. I’m sure he’d like a pen pal,” is the final statement that Eames utters in the fourteenth episode of season two, which is titled “Probability.” Linn-Baker provided the voice for one of a quartet of aardvarks that appeared on the album Philadelphia Chickens that was released by Sandra Boynton in 2002. Joe Grifasi, Michael Gross, and Devin McEwan provided the voices for the other three characters.
