When he was done with education, he wasted little time diving headfirst into an acting career. Indeed, Mark Addy is a British voice actor and performer. The actor has been active for almost three decades and has been in numerous movies and TV series. Mark’s performances on shows like “Still Standing,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Atlantis” helped to catapult him to fame.

Mark is well-known as the man behind the American accent of Fred Flintstone, the Pangean cartoon character brought to life in the film adaption. He’s been performing on stage for quite some time, and his resume includes roles in a wide variety of plays and musicals. Mark has been in numerous plays at the “Royal National Theatre.”
Mark made his debut on British television in an episode of the BBC sitcom The Ritz from 1987. In the following year, he had a recurring role as Mal Prentis on the BBC comedy-drama A Very Peculiar Practice. Throughout the subsequent two years, Mark was not involved in any projects.
Continuing his career on television, he appeared in two episodes of the ITV police drama The Bill in the United Kingdom. After that, he had guest starring parts on shows including ‘Married… with Children’ and ‘Between the Lines,’ both on Fox and ‘Cops,’ a ‘police drama’ on NBC. A few years later, he had a guest spot on the British crime drama ‘Band of Gold.’ Mark’s career as an actor dates back to the early 1990s.
Mark’s 1991–1992 London theater career included performances at the prestigious “Laurence Olivier Theatre,” the intimate “Cottesloe Theatre,” and the lively “Lyttelton Theatre.” The Trackers of Oxyrhynchus, The Wind in the Willows, Racing Demon, Murmuring Judges, and The Shape of the Table are just a few of the plays in which he appeared during this time. Mark has since appeared as a guest star on numerous television shows, such as “Peak Practice,” “Heartbeat,” “Out of the Blue,” and “Sunnyside Farm.” He has a long list of acting credits, beginning with the short film “Bruised Fruit” and including the TV movies “Respect” and “The Heart Surgeon.” Mark also appeared in seven episodes of the Rowan Atkinson comedy The Thin Blue Line from 1996.
Mark’s first major part was in the leading male role in the British comedy The Full Monty from 1997. He has a significant part as steelworker David “Dave” Horsefall in the film.
Mark’s performances in “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas” and “Still Standing” defined his career after brief appearances in “Jack Frost,” a 1998 Christmas fantasy comedy-drama film, and “The Flint Street Nativity,” a 1999 British television comedy.
As Fred Flintstone, Mark provided his voice for the lead role in the animated comedy The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, released in 2000. It was a continuation of the same animated TV series as the previous feature, The Flintstones.
In the medieval comedy adventure film A Knight’s Tale, Mark plays the squire Roland, a loyal companion to the main character, William. The next year, he became a regular cast member on the CBS sitcom Still Standing, playing the role of William “Bill” Miller. Mark portrayed the show’s Chicago family patriarch.
In “The Order,” a mystery horror film released in 2003, Mark portrayed a character named “Thomas Garrett,” a “Carolingian.” He plays Friar Tuck, Robin Hood’s faithful companion and trusted advisor, in the 2010 British-American epic historical drama. The Canadian comedy-drama “Barney’s Version,” in which he portrayed “Detective O’Hearne,” was released the same year.
His portrayals as Dogberry in “Much Ado About Nothing,” the real-life Norwegian arctic explorer Hjalmar Johansen in “Fram,” and “Kevin Snell” in a 2006 revival of Michael Frayn’s “Donkeys’ Years” were all highlights of his stage career. Mark was hired as the spokesperson for Tesco Clubcard, the loyalty program of the British supermarket chain Tesco, in 2009. He played the part of ‘John Piggott’ in the 2009 film based on the Yorkshire Ripper murders, which took place between 1974 and 1983.
Mark portrayed Robert Baratheon in the premiere of the fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” in 2011. The series is based on the book by George RR Martin titled “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Mark only played the role in seven episodes, but he left an indelible mark on the rest of the cast. His made-up character was among the select ones to sit on the legendary throne. Screen Actors Guild Award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series” and Scream Award for “Best Ensemble” Mark and the rest of the “Game of Thrones” cast were nominated for both of these categories. Mark played the role of NKVD officer “Vladimir” in the 2011 production of “Collaborators” at the “National Theatre.”
