On March 25th, 1962, in the town of Marlborough, Massachusetts, Marcia Anne Cross was born to her parents, Janet and Mark Cross. She is the second oldest of the couple’s three kids, all of whom are girls. Her mother worked as an educator, while her father managed employees in the personnel department. Since she was a youngster, she has had a strong interest in performing, and it was her instructor who urged her to pursue a career in acting. When she was in the sixth grade, she made her acting debut in her school’s production of “The Witch of Blackbird Pond.”
After graduating from Marlborough High School in 1980, she received a partial scholarship to attend The Juilliard School in Manhattan, which is located in New York City. She finished her education in the performing arts in 1984 and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting as a formal recognition of her accomplishments. Marcia Cross is a well-known American actress who rose to prominence thanks to her performance as the deranged physician Kimberly Shaw in the long-running and critically acclaimed television series Melrose Place.
Her notoriety skyrocketed after she was cast in the role of Bree Van De Kamp in the immensely popular and critically acclaimed comedy-drama television series ‘Desperate Housewives.’ Her acting career was launched with an appearance in the soap opera “The Edge of Night,” in which she played the part of Liz Correll in a supporting role. She did not land any meaningful job until she moved to Los Angeles and established herself there.
She then went on to star in six other television movies, including “The Last Days of Frank” and “Jessie James,” among others. Following her role as Kate Sanders on ‘One Life to Live,’ she appeared as a guest on ‘Knots Landing.’ After appearing in a number of television shows and films, she was ultimately cast in the role that would transform her acting career in the show Desperate Housewives.
Because of her performance as Bree Van De Kamp, she was briefly included on the Forbes list of the top-paid actresses for their work in television. In addition, she was considered for a number of TV award nominations for the same role. She is currently starring in the hit television thriller ‘Quantico’ as the character President Claire Haas. Marcia Cross participated in a number of stage productions as well as television shows. It was in 1984 when she made her debut on the television series ‘The Edge of Night.’ In the television movie “Brass,” which was released in 1985, she appeared alongside Carroll O’Connor in a number of scenes.
In 1986, she played the role of Lynn Erskine on the crime-themed television show ‘Pros & Cons,’ which gave her her first opportunity to star in a leading role. In the same year, she had a role in the television movie titled “The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James,” in which she collaborated with well-known actors and actresses from Hollywood, such as Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson.
She also made an appearance on the soap operas ‘Another World and ‘One Life to Live’ during the same calendar year. In 1988, she starred alongside Tim Daly in the dramatization of a melancholy romantic relationship titled “Almost Grown.” The show in question was only a test run, and the channel ultimately decided not to pick it up. Despite this, the show continues to receive praise from its viewers.
Cross appeared in an episode of the sitcom ‘Cheers’ playing the role of Susan, a seductive sister of Rebecca Howe. Her subsequent work was the 1990 suspense film titled “Bad Influence,” in which she portrayed Ruth Fielding. The film was released that year. In the year 1991, she appeared as Victoria Broyelard on the long-running and critically acclaimed television series Knots Landing. After being chosen to play Dr. Kimberly Shaw in the successful television show ‘Melrose Place’ in 1992, her fame reached an all-time high.
Her character goes through several dramatic plot cycles during the course of the episode, including things like kidnapping a child, committing adultery, and even burning her own house on fire. Due to the fact that the audience loved her character so much, the producers decided to keep her around even after the scene in which she was supposed to die. Cross was next seen in the sitcoms ‘Ned & Stacey,’ in which she featured in three episodes as Diana Huntley, and ‘Seinfeld,’ in which she portrayed Dr. Sara Sitarides in one episode. Both of these shows aired in 1997.
Cross made the decision in 1997 to pursue a career in psychology. In 2003, she attended Antioch University in Los Angeles and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in psychology. On the other hand, she did have a few cameos in various films and television series. Her film “Dancing in September,” which she starred in and was released in 2000, received positive reviews, and because of her strong performance in the film, she was offered the main part in the film “Living in Fear,” which was released the following year.
In 2002, Cross returned to acting on a full-time basis and made her debut in the television drama “Everwood,” in which she portrayed Dr. Linda Abbott for the first time. Cross’s career took a dramatic turn in 2004 when she landed a role on ‘Desperate Housewives,’ which is widely regarded as one of the most popular television series in the United States.
Because of her outstanding performance as the meticulous homemaker Bree Van De Kamp, Cross was nominated for many awards that year and went on to win a handful of them for her interpretation of the character. Marcia Cross is a reoccurring character on Quantico, having joined the show’s roster in 2015 and playing the role of President Claire Haas. Cross is sure to have made appearances in a great number of television series, but it was “Melrose Palace” that brought her to widespread attention.
