Michael Connor Gainey is an American character actor who was born on January 18, 1948. He is perhaps most recognized for his roles in the films Lost, Con Air, Sideways, Tangled, and Django Unchained. Jackson, Mississippi is where Gainey began his life. Along with Ken Hixon, he began his theatrical training at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California, in the early 1970s. His previous educational affiliation was with the University of Southern Mississippi. Before he made the decision to pursue a career in acting, he trained to become a mortician. In 1969, he was stationed at Chakmakli, Turkey, with the United States Army and served as the company mailman at his post.
In 1981, he made his debut on the big screen in the musical Pennies from Heaven directed by Herbert Ross. The film also starred Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. Over the course of his career, which began in the early 1980s, he has appeared in more than fifty movies, some of which include Two Idiots in Hollywood (1988), The Mighty Ducks (1992), The Fan (1996), Breakdown (1997), Con Air (1997), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Sideways (2004), Are We There Yet? (2005), The Dukes of Hazzard (2005), Wild Hogs (2007), and Mr. Woodcock (2007).
Gainey performed the role of Tom Friendly on the television series Lost and was one of the stars of the series Against the Law, which did not last very long. In the first season of the critically acclaimed FX series Justified, he also played the role of Bo Crowder, a violent drug dealer. The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, Designing Women, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., Walker, Texas Ranger, Criminal Minds, CSI, Girl Meets World, Cheers, Days of Our Lives, The X-Files, Desperate Housewives, The Mentalist, Burn Notice, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are just some of the television shows on which he has appeared as a guest star. He has appeared on over 40 television shows.
Alongside Bradley Cooper and Jennie Garth, Gainey made an appearance in the film The Last Cowboy in the year 2003. In this film, he played the part of a friend of Lance Henriksen. In the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning 2004 art house film Sideways, Gainey played the role of a cuckolded spouse who strips naked in front of his children. In the controversial road-vengeance short film Apocalypse Oz, he plays the role of Kurtz, also known as The Wizard. In 2007, he had roles in the television shows Mr. Woodcock and Wild Hogs, as well as Unearthed.
He made an appearance in the movie Love Ranch in 2010, and he provided the voice of the Captain of the Palace Guard in the animated film Tangled. He later returned to the same character for the television series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, which will air between 2017 and 2020. He made an appearance in the movie Django Unchained, which was directed by Quentin Tarantino and released in 2012. Since 2002, he has been married to his wife, who is also known as Kim Novicki.
In response to being pigeonholed, Gainey said: Because of my appearance, I don’t get cast in many parts that need me to act as a lawyer or a priest. I was born with a face that was designed for a mug shot, and for the past three decades, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing with it. If I play a law enforcement officer in a movie, I always play a racist cop, a trigger-happy cop, or a crooked cop. However, the majority of the time I play cowboys, bikers, or criminals.
Gainey has stated the following as his favorite of the nefarious roles that he has played: Con Air plays “Swamp Thing” throughout their set. If you take a good look at my character in a movie that has a lot of bad guys, you’ll notice that I don’t really get in anyone’s face, I don’t really kill anyone, and I’m not really a bad guy – I’m just a guy who likes to fly. This is not to say that my character can withstand the weight of a comprehensive investigation, but it’s still interesting to note.
He landed his jet, which was carrying restricted narcotics, in the incorrect location due to his own carelessness, and as a result, he is now in the system. When it comes to villains, however, I’d say that the person I portrayed in Breakdown was a particularly despicable individual. There is absolutely no way to redeem that person’s actions. He is a producer and an actor, and his most notable works include Con Air (1997), Wild Hogs (2007), and Club Dread (2004). Since the 2nd of May in 2002, he has been married to Kim.
