Bio

Lee Pace is a well-known American actor who has been on both the big screen and on the stage. After attending and graduating from the Juilliard School, he began his career as a stage actor before moving into the commercial entertainment industry. But he didn’t make his Broadway debut until a long time after he’d already been in a number of TV and film productions. Lee’s acting skills were on full display in his first film, in which he played a transgender character.

He said that all the acting lessons he’d had hadn’t prepared him for the role he was portraying. Lee has been nominated for and awarded many prestigious honors for his many roles, some of which were based on real individuals. The actor’s sexuality has been questioned on several occasions. On the other side, Lee has been more open about his sexual experiences with both sexes lately.

Lee Grinner Pace’s birthday is March 25th, therefore he turned 39 today. His father was an engineer by trade, and his mother was a schoolteacher; their names were James Roy Pace and Charlotte Pace. Together with his elder sister Sally and younger brother William, he was close throughout his formative years. Lee’s family moved around quite a bit when he was growing up because of his father’s work.

As his father ran an oil business out of Saudi Arabia, he had spent some time there as well. Lee graduated from Klein High School, which is in the city of Spring in the state of Texas. During his brief hiatus from high school, he joined Houston’s “Alley Theatre,” where he performed in productions of “The Spider’s Web” and “The Greeks.” After finishing high school, Lee attended the Juilliard School to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

He was a member of Juilliard’s “Group 30” theatrical troupe from 1997 to 2001, during which time he performed in a number of productions. NBC’s crime drama “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” was where Lee got his start as a professional actor back in 2002. The commitment to the character was short-lived, lasting just a handful of episodes. After the success of the Showtime film “Soldier’s Girl” in 2003, he was widely recognized as a promising actor.

Actress and transsexual rights campaigner Calpernia Addams, portrayed in the film by Lee. Barry Winchell, a soldier who had a romantic interest in Calpernia Addams, was brutally killed because of their relationship. Calpernia Addams was played by Lee. To play a transgender character in his first film was a daunting task, but Lee’s efforts were rewarded when he won a “Gotham Award” for his portrayal.

The three major awards committees also considered him for Golden Globe consideration as a consequence of his performance. Lee appeared in a total of 13 episodes of the Fox comedy-drama series “Wonderfalls” during its 2004 season, playing recurring characters. Next year he was in the dramatic film The White Countess. It was in 2006 when “Infamous,” starring Tommy Lee Jones as “Richard Hickock,” was released.

In addition, he had roles in the fantasy film The Fall and the spy thriller The Good Shepherd. He received the “Silver Bear” for “Outstanding Artistic Contribution” for his work in the latter, which he and the rest of the cast afterwards divided among themselves. In the movie “The Fall,” Lee played the role of a paraplegic. The filmmaker was able to convince almost all of the performers that they, too, had dealt with the illness at some point in their life.

Lee’s makeup artist almost fainted the first time he saw him standing up. Lee also featured as “Michael Pardew” and sang vocals in the 2008 romantic comedy “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.” After “The West Wing,” Lee’s next major TV production was “Pushing Daisies,” an ABC fantasy mystery comedy-drama. Lee starred as the title character, Ned, in this program.

He was nominated for five awards for this performance: two “Satellite Awards,” one “Primetime Emmy,” one “Golden Globe,” and two “Saturn Awards.” After ‘Pushing Daisies’ ended, Lee began focusing on movies and also made his Broadway debut. Lee co-starred opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 2009 release of the psychological thriller Possession.

His first Broadway endeavor was the autobiographical drama “The Normal Heart,” which opened on April 27, 2011, at the “Golden Theatre.” In 2012, his second play, “Golden Age,” featured him as Italian opera composer Vincenzo Bellini on Broadway. In the 2013 film “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” Lee played the character of the itinerant vampire Garrett. In the 2012 film “Lincoln,” Lee played the role of the American politician Fernando Wood.

Next, he appeared in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” a fantasy adventure film. Lee was cast in the role of the fictional character “Thranduil,” a part he would play again in the second and third parts of “The Hobbit,” “The Desolation of Smaug” and “The Battle of the Five Armies,” respectively. Lee has also directed the superhero films Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Captain Marvel (2018), both of which are based on characters from Marvel Comics (2019).

He played the villainous “Ronan the Accuser” in both films. After a long hiatus from the small screen, Lee returned to television in 2014 as a regular cast member on the AMC historical drama Halt and Catch Fire, playing the role of Joe MacMillan. He had to appear in forty total episodes as part of the job. He received a Satellite Award nomination for “Best Actor in a Drama Series” because of his portrayal of the role.

Acting career highlight: 2015’s “The Program,” a biography of retired cyclist Lance Armstrong, in which he portrayed the part of Bill Stapleton, a former competitive swimmer. The following year, he lent his voice to an episode of the stop-motion sketch comedy series ‘Robot Chicken,’ playing the character of real-life celebrity Heinrich Himmler, a prominent member of the ‘Nazi’ party who was responsible for the ‘Holocaust.’
