Her first appearance as an actress was in the second grade, when she took on the role of a munchkin in a production of The Wizard of Oz.

She received her high school education from Eagan. Osnes majored in Musical Theatre during his first year at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point but ultimately decided to seek a career in the entertainment industry instead of continuing his education. After that, she portrayed Bonnie Parker in the La Jolla Playhouse production of the world premiere of Bonnie & Clyde, which ran from November 10 to December 20 of that same year.

On January 5, 2010, Osnes made her second appearance as Nellie in the Broadway production of South Pacific. On August 8, 2010, she gave the performance that would be her last. During the months of November and December of 2010, she performed at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, in the part of Bonnie in the play Bonnie & Clyde.

Osnes then portrayed Hope Harcourt in the Broadway revival of Anything Goes, which started previews on March 10, 2011, and officially opened on April 7, 2011, starring Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. Osnes performed the role of Hope Harcourt in the production of Anything Goes on Broadway. Because of her performance in this role, Osnes was considered for both the Outer Critics Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

Both of these awards are given annually to recognize excellence in the field of musical theater acting. She was also considered for the Astaire Award, which recognizes outstanding performance in the art of dance. On September 11, 2011, Osnes announced his departure from the production.

Osnes took on the role of Bonnie once again for the first time on Broadway in the production of Bonnie and Clyde at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, which began previews on November 4, 2011 and had its opening night on December 1. Her fellow actor from the Asolo Rep production, Jeremy Jordan, played the role of Clyde. The play was shut down on December 30, 2011, after receiving unfavorable reviews and suffering from disappointing ticket sales.

Osnes, on the other hand, was singled out for praise for her performance, which earned her a nomination for her first Tony Award in the category of Best Leading Actress in a Musical. This was in spite of the fact that the majority of reviewers had a negative opinion of the production.

Next, Osnes gave a performance at the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors as part of a tribute to Barbara Cook. She was joined onstage by Sutton Foster, Rebecca Luker, Kelli O’Hara, Patti LuPone, and Audra McDonald, among others.

Cinderella, the musical, was originally written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. In January of 2012, she performed as the title character in a reading of a modified production of the musical.

After that, she directed the stage concert production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Pipe Dream at the Encores! stage concert, which was based on the book Sweet Thursday by John Steinbeck. The performance was held from the 28th of March to the 1st of April in 2012 and was directed by Marc Bruni.

In the role of Maria, Osnes stole the show during a concert production of The Sound of Music on April 24, 2012, held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In addition, Tony Goldwyn played the role of Captain von Trapp, Brooke Shields played Elsa Schraeder, and Patrick Page played Max Detweiler in this production.

Cinderella, which started previews at the Broadway Theatre on January 25 and debuted on March 3, 2013, starring Osnes as the title character on Broadway. The show opened on March 3, 2013. Because to her portrayal, Osnes was praised by critics, she was awarded the Drama Desk Award in 2013, and she was even considered for a Tony Award. On January 26, 2014, she handed up her resignation, and Carly Rae Jepsen was brought on to take her position in the production.

Between the months of March and May of 2014, Osnes portrayed Polly Peachum in the Off-Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera that was produced by the Atlantic Theatre Company. Osnes was recognized as a candidate for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in this role.

This is the second time she has been considered for this award. In the spring of 2015, Osnes portrayed Julie Jordan in the production of Carousel that was put on by the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Steven Pasquale was her co-star in this performance. On May 3, 2015, the project was finally brought to an end. The performance was met with favorable critical acclaim.

She performed in the new original musical Bandstand, which was directed by Andy Blankenbuehler and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, and it had its world debut at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey from October 8 to November 8, 2015. Richard Oberacker is responsible for the musical’s score, while Robert Taylor and Oberacker are responsible for the book and the lyrics.

Osnes’ most recent Broadway performance was in the musical at the Jacobs Theatre, where she shared the stage with co-star Corey Cott. It began holding previews on March 31, 2017, and officially opened for business on April 26, 2017. After a total of 166 performances, including 24 previews, the show ran its last show on Broadway on September 17, 2017, and then closed.

After Bandstand came to an end, Osnes began making regular appearances in the Broadway Princess Party event, which made its debut at Feinstein’s/54 Below. Osnes not only hosted the show but also collaborated with music director Benjamin Rauhala on its creation. At these performances, each actress takes on the identity of a Disney Princess and performs a song from stage or screen in character as that princess.

Osnes typically emcees and performs as Cinderella at these Princess Parties, which have become recurring live events at that venue that gather both well-known and upcoming stage actresses. She also acts in this production alongside other Broadway actresses Susan Egan (Beauty and the Beast, Hercules), and Courtney Reed (Aladdin), on a constant basis when the show is on the road.
