Lance Reddick had a fortunate upbringing throughout his life. He was born on December 31, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was descended from a long line of legal professionals. During his senior year of high school, he attended both the Walden School and the Peabody Preparatory Institute, where he majored in music theory and composition. In spite of his early convictions that people who wanted to be actors were foolish, Reddick was always drawn inexplicably toward the industry. He thought that those who wanted to be performers were stupid.
After receiving his diploma from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in the 1980s, he relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, and started attending classes at the Yale School of Drama the following decade in 1991. Reddick received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University. In addition to Reddick, the film included other notable actors and actresses such as Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, and Annette Bening. He played the recurring role of Detective Willis Simms in the crime drama ‘Falcone,’ which aired on CBS in the year 2000. In the same year, he also appeared in the romantic adventure film “I Dreamed of Africa,” which was released that year.
In the two seasons of the HBO drama series ‘Oz’ that he participated in between the years 2000 and 2001, he portrayed the role of Johnny Basil, a.k.a. Reddick, who was born and raised in Maryland, attended the illustrious Peabody Institute for the Study of Music.
He spent the summer at the Walden School participating in a program that allowed him to concentrate on the theory and creation of music. After earning his bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University, he continued his education at the Yale School of Theater, where he earned his master’s degree in theater. It was in 1996 that he made his debut on the small screen, appearing in an episode of “New York Undercover.”
