Ken Jeong is an actor of Korean and American nationality who is most recognized for playing the eccentric character of Leslie Chow in the film series “The Hangover.” Aside from that, he is also known for his role as Ben Chang on the popular sitcom ‘Community,’ which helped him gain a significant amount of notoriety.
On July 13, 1969, Kendrick Kang-joh Jeong was born to a family of South Korean immigrants in Detroit, Michigan. His parents were both natives in South Korea. His father, D.K. Jeong, worked as a professor at a university. Since he was a young adult, Ken has had a keen interest in doing stand-up comedy as well as improv, and this fascination began throughout his teenage years. But since his parents wished for him to have a secure job, he decided against pursuing stand-up comedy as a full-time profession and instead studied medicine instead. But after he began his career as a physician, he found that this freed up some time for him to investigate his long-held passions, and he began doing stand-up comedy on the side.
Even when he was still in school, Ken was a regular performer at a variety of open mic and stand-up comedy gigs. Because he never ceased being a comic, he was able to further enhance his abilities as a comedian. He never stopped being a comedian. Ken Jeong has been married to Tang Ho, a Vietnamese American physician, since the early 2000s. Tang Ho is also an American. She was treated for breast cancer and beat it. The couple is the proud parents of identical twin girls who were born in 2007.
Ken looks up to Todd Philips, the director of “The Hangover,” as if he were his own brother and never hesitates to give Philips credit for all of Ken’s achievements in the entertainment industry. After completing his residency in internal medicine, Ken began his career in medicine at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. He simultaneously worked on his stand-up comedy routines at the same time. After that, he uprooted his life and traveled to California, where he subsequently qualified for a medical license. But his true objective was to establish himself in the local comedy scene there.
In 1995, Ken took part in the “Big Easy Laff-off,” and the judges thought that his abilities were strong enough to warrant a relocation to Los Angeles. They encouraged him to make the move. As a result of this victory, Ken had the self-assurance to become a regular at the comedy venues Improv and Laugh Factory. After relocating to Los Angeles with the intention of pursuing a career in comedy on a more serious level, he began working at the Kaiser Permanente medical center.
His first picture, “Knocked Up,” which was directed by Jude Apatow and released in 2007 marked the beginning of his career in the film industry. It was the character of Dr. Kuni that he performed in the movie that ultimately proved to be his breakout performance in the Hollywood film industry. Due to his outstanding comedic timing and unique personality peculiarities, Ken was able to make a significant impression despite the fact that he just had a supporting part.
In 2009, he was cast in the part that would permanently alter his life and his career. In the movie “The Hangover,” in which Bradley Cooper plays the principal role, the casting directors decided to give him the part of a comedic villain.
