Anderson completed 14 of 27 passes for 113 yards and one interception. The next year was a jumbled mess of success. Anderson set a league-high in completions, completion percentage (64.9), yards (2,667), and passer rating (95.7) while throwing for 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 starts for the Bengals. He threw for a league-high 3,169 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions for a 60.5 completion percentage. He set league records in yards gained per pass attempt, yards per game, and passer rating while leading the Bengals to a 10–3 record and being named to his first Pro Bowl (John Reaves started and won a game without Anderson). Anderson completed 17 of 27 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Raiders outplayed the Bengals in terms of rushing and time, as they only punted once (along with two turnovers) and held on to win 31–28 despite nearly blowing a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter. It was Paul Brown’s final season as coach, as he was replaced by Bill “Tiger” Johnson, but it was also Walsh’s final season with the Bengals, as he left for San Diego shortly after. Byron Von Hoff, another neighbour and teammate, played basketball and other sports with Anderson and Issel at Batavia. Issel was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame while playing for the Kentucky Colonels and the Denver Nuggets.Von Hoff was the New York Mets’ 21st pick in the 1966 Amateur Baseball Draft, and he pitched successfully in the minor leagues before suffering an injury that ended his career. Craig Sager, a future NBA announcer, was another friend and teammate at Batavia.
