Kate Maberly Bio

Kate Elizabeth Cameron Maberly is a musician, actor, director, writer, and producer from England. She was born on March 14, 1982, and has the pronunciation /emboli/. She has worked in the film industry, as well as television, radio, and the stage. Maberly started swimming competitively when she was 5 years old, and she continued to be a county champion swimmer until she was 16 years old. She finished the BT National Swimathon when she was 7 years old, being the youngest person to finish the race at the time. She did this to raise money for St. Piers Lingfield, which is now known as “Young Epilepsy,” a school that assists children who suffer from epilepsy. Beginning when she was 12 years old, she competed for her county in tennis, and from 2004 to 2010, she was a member of the Royal Parks tennis leagues in London.

Maberly began playing the piano at the age of six, and by the time she was fourteen, she had traveled to Venice, Italy, with the Dunottar Chamber Ensemble to perform as the solo pianist in a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 23. She went on to study at London’s Trinity College of Music, where she received a dual honors degree in piano and cello performance in 2004 after earning the equivalent of grade 8 on both the piano and the cello while she was still in school. She is also a composer of music and a jazz singer; she has performed at the jazz club Pizza in the Park in London.

The part of Mary Lennox, which Maberly played in the 1993 film The Secret Garden, is considered by many to be her breakout performance. The picture, which was directed by Agnieszka Holland and received praise on a global scale, has now evolved into a beloved piece of cinematic canon for families. This performance, which received critical acclaim on a global scale, paved the way for several lead roles in subsequent productions, including those of Dinah Bellman in The Langoliers, alongside David Morse and Patricia Wettig; Glumdalclitch in Gulliver’s Travels, alongside Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Peter O’Toole, and Kristen Scott Thomas; Ira in Friendship’s Field; and Vanessa in Mothertime.

Back in the UK, Maberly continued to work on a variety of high-quality period dramas for the BBC. Some of these productions include the Bafta-winning “Anglo-Saxon-Attitudes” with Kate Winslet and Daniel Craig; the Bafta / Golden Globe-winning “The Last of the Blond Bombshells” with Dame Judi Dench and Ian Holm; the Emmy-winning “Victoria & Albert”; the Baf She made her theatrical debut as Juliet in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” and then she appeared as “Mathilde” in Christopher Hampton’s “Total Eclipse” at the Royal Court Theatre in London, opposite Ben Whishaw and Matthew Macfadyen. Both of these productions were directed by Christopher Hampton.

Since graduating, Maberly has had roles in the feature films Like Minds, in which she co-starred with Eddie Redmayne and Toni Collette; Popcorn; Rites of Passage, in which she co-starred alongside Christian Slater and Wes Bentley; Standing Up, in which she co-starred alongside Val Kilmer and Rhada Mitchell; The Ghastly Love of Johnny X; and Boogeyman 3, all of which were released after her graduation. In addition, she featured opposite Xander Berkley in the critically acclaimed HULU/FX drama The Booth at the End.

In addition to her work on screen, Maberly has also done voice-over work for the films Ordynek: Bringing the Pride of Poland to Texas and The Braniff Pages. Both of these films were released in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively. She has finished a number of radio works for BBC Radio 4, some of which are titled The Dorabella Variation, A Certain Smile, and National Velvet. In 1995, Maberly won an Audie Award for her performance as the narrator of the audiobook adaptation of Catherine Called Birdy, which was written by Karen Cushman.

During the year 2007, Maberly collaborated with a music producer based in the London region to record a few of her own songs for a new mini album. Maberly displayed her musical talent by playing the piano in the BBC drama Mothertime in 1995 and by playing the cello in the short film The Audition in 2004. Both performances were shown on the BBC. In addition to that, she was the producer as well as the director of a music video for the Danish rock band Blooq, also known as Triggerbox. Young Mary Lennox, played by Kate Maberly, did not have a parent. She was brought up in British-occupied India by her extraordinarily affluent and completely incompetent parents, both of whom perished in an earthquake when she was young. She was born in India during that time.

Mary was constantly pampered by maids, and she never lacked anything… with the exception of fundamental devotion from her parents. She is sent to live with her estranged uncle, Lord Archibald Craven, at his vast house in the English countryside after her parents have passed away. The Yorkshire estate known as Misselthwaite Manor is gloomy and foreboding, and it is rife with the long-kept secrets of her family about bereavement and loss.

As soon as Mary arrives at the mansion, she is cautioned by the strict housekeeper, Mrs. Medlock, not to go exploring. Mrs. Medlock is afraid that Mary would locate or disturb her purportedly unwell cousin, Colin, if she does so. She is also given the responsibility of taking care of herself for the very first time in her brief life of 10 years. She eventually finds cryptic tunnels, hidden keys, and the eponymous secret garden that was originally owned by her late aunt, who was her mother’s twin sister. Her aunt passed away when she was little.

Maberly’s short film, Charlie’s Supersonic Glider, which she wrote, shot, and produced in 2015 served as the opening night film for the Hollywood Film Festival. Maberly is writing, producing, and directing The Forest of Hands and Teeth, an adaptation of the best-selling Young Adult series written by Carrie Ryan. Her producing partner is Doug Liman, and together they are working on the project. Maberly was selected as one of the “10 Brits to Watch in 2017” by Variety magazine.
